Barton signs for Newcastle £5.8m

Manchester City can confirm that Joey Barton has been sold to Newcastle United for a fee of £5.8million.

The 24-year-old asked for permission to speak with Newcastle last week after both the Magpies and West Ham submitted bids of £5.5million or more for the player.

Newcastle followed their initial bid up with an improved £5.8million offer today, which has been accepted by the Blues.

Joey made 142 starts for the Blues scoring 17 goals, and he won one England cap when he came on as a substitute in February’s international against Spain.


So basically Newcastle have paid for Barton's loyalty pay off which is a victory for us over the scummy bastard....

Thought this would happen. ManC were under no pressure to pay him his 'loyalty' fee. They could have held on to him indefinitely until he put in the transfer request. Good job by the board for not giving in.

Fat Sam seems to like the more difficult players. Maybe he believes that if their attitude can be channeled into football. They will be better players than those with similar talent but have a indifferent personality.

From the names we've been linked with i'd have Beye - I remember us playing Marseille and he impressed, dirty fucker from what i remember, i'd rather have him than Luke Young. Rozehnal, i'm not convinced we're in for him, his agent seems to be trying to whore him out. And i would have Baines plus 1 or 2 back up defenders. Then i think we need a DM to partner Barton, Butt is shithouse.

That would leave us with a pretty good squad.

A pretty embarrassing day for Newcastle. We are robbed out of £300,000 by a player who has already made it clear he is more interested in money than playing football or preparing properly for a season with our club. Then we fail to get a player in Ben Haim who would actually have improved our team tremendously, a player who our manager brought to England and worked with for several years yet still couldnt win over to the club in preference to sitting on the bench somewhere else. Ive also read suggestions that Rozehnal is considering moving to Dortmund ahead of us, but thats besides the point today.

He (Noel) is mates with Delps too.

SA may be able to curb Barton’s demons to an extent, and he may even get consistent performances from him, but if I was a young professional footballer playing at Newcastle, attempting to develop and mature as an athlete and a person, I’d shudder and cringe at the prospect of sharing a dressing room with this idiot.

Most of the 'difficult' players have problems with consistency rather than ability. Providing the manager has the ability to deal with the players off the field problems, it's easier for them to improve the player.

I have seen him in a few interviews and shows, he seems alright. Just loses his temper now and then, this whole thug issue has been exagerated a bit.

His demeanour in front of the media is cunningly deceptive, I think. Almost blinding someone by extinguishing a cigar in their eye is vile. His agent, Willie McKay, is a trouble maker too. He was quick to blame Dabo for the recent fracas before retracting that statement when it became clear that Barton actually battered Dabo for no reason other than he is an idiot with an attitude problem.
