Well done Holland, I think it is fair to say that they were the better side last night. Although I am disappointed that England lost, I must admit that I think England winning the tournament or reaching the final would have masked over some serious problems. In truth we didn't really outplay a single side in this tournament. We have some good young players, but our progress was mostly secured through solid defending and being stronger and more powerful than our opponents early on in games.
It worries me that like our senior side, we seem incapable of passing and keeping possession like other top teams. For me, this competition has shown that English youngsters are still playing a style which simply is not successful at the highest levels of international football. These youngsters will go into the senior squad in future years and continue to play the same unsuccessful style.
We can't just congratulate ourselves on a brave effort and a decent overall result from this championship, but really need to question why, when other teams pass and play with flair, our tactics are still long balls and capitalising on set-pieces. If we can't fix this at these younger age groups then I worry that we will continue to endure frustration in the future at international level.
