This is exactly my problem with the signing of Pepe. He is not a consagrated, great player. We probably could have signed both Pablo and Jarque for that amount. It just makes no sense to me that we would spend that much on him.

Were any other big clubs interested in Pepe? I really can't believe that you paid €30m for a central defender, no matter how good. Maybe he is part of a deal with Porto regarding Quaresma.

very surprised one of the big clubs went in for Jarque is has a buy out clause of 12M, guess they think he needs to prove him self a bit more.

Still haven't sign the "10" you will need for his 4-2-3-1 are will he just play Raul or Guti their.

Emerson is he still at the club last time i heard his name he was being rumored to be on his way to Milan.

Supposedly Juve were interested him at some point and Barcelona were considering him as alternative if they couldn't sign Chivu or Milito. We should have paid half of what we did for Pepe. He better turn into a f*cking Brasilian/Portuguese version of Franz Beckenbaur for 30m. euro

As far as the formation, if we play 4-2-3-1, I assume Gago-Diarra will be the first choice for central midfield and then some combination of Robinho, Reyes, and Robben (assuming we get the latter, if not someone else) on the wings and then Raul/Higuain/Baptista/Saviola/Cassano will play as withdrawn striker and Ruud or Soldado as the '9'.

no... i doubt that is what he is for. he is more a cover for the forward position. and i think queresma is the closest to a number 10 we will get. he's a playermaker from the wing though and yes that LB position seems thin while CB and RB are just fine atm

Yes, if we get both Robben and Reyes they can/will be used on the right wing even if that isn't their natural position. Reyes had some of his better performances on the right this past year. Plus both Balboa and Nieto will be with the first team in preseason so if one of them impresses Schuster that will be another player for the right wing potentially.

I think the only real possibility (and this is a huge stretch) is Cesc. If we don't sign Cesc then I think we will just give the reigns of the team to Gago who is capable even though he plays a bit deeper than a traditional '10'.

the problem then becomes that we have no one to make the assists. if we are not going to sign a nr 10 as it seems i think we should give guti a chance esp as we are playing more offensive now. and with a robinho-robben on the wings guti would have more options.i just want a another winger (robben/quaresma) then we can choose whether or not to play with 2 strikers(nistelrooy-higuain) or a playmaker(guti).
btw im still waiting for the pepe news to be false.
