nice.
Very harsh I think, if clubs sacked managers for the quality of the football they produce then Mourinho and Benitiez wouldn't have lasted a season

As a neutral I'm sort of glad to be honest, but still can't help feel Capello was hard done by.
But with players like Robinho, Higuain, Gago etc, they should be playing football that is easier on the eye.

football as well as any other sport has become entertainment
over 80.000 fans pay good money to watch some of the best players in the world
the club's whole existence is based on its image of glamour, flair and success
Capello failed to understand the first two and rightly had to go
by the same token Benitez and Mourinho have no right to manage a BIG, RICH club and should be sacked immediately
both would be good at small clubs which they can lead higher than expected

I can see Real failing now for some years to come.
The next clown they will get will last another season (I'm being generous) and then onto the next Bozo. Soon they will rival Palermo for hire and fire frequency.

Oh the irony, because then - 1974-78 and 2006 apart, all German national managers and teams should have been sacked/banned for playing their "efficiency over style" brand of uninspiring football.
What English clubs recognise, which foreign clubs like Madrid do not, is that if your club has not won a competition in awhile, the value of breaking that duck then allowing consistency to occur over a number of years is excellent business sense. you do not sack your CEO for beating all competition profits and becoming market leader after 4 years in the wilderness.
Now that Liverpool and Chelsea have laid foundations of recent success, there will be justified pressure to begin to play with more style. Sacking a manager like capello who has brought Madrid their first trophy in 4 years is madness. Nay, its disgusting. I feel for the man

You are right, it's unsuprising- Madrid has long showed itself to be an appalling club when it comes to showing loyalty to its employees. I cannot believe Capello wasnt even given another year at the least. Pathetic

We knew exactly what we were getting. Capello did his job -- he put an end to the "galactico" attitudes and won us the title -- and now the board has decided it's time to move on.

Does nobody remember that the first time Capello won the title, HE left to go back to Milan leaving us high and dry. Where was his loyalty? People make so much of loyalty in football when there are really very few cases of it to begin with. This time the tables have turned and Capello is sacked.

Indeed, I can acutely remember how he was bemoaning Bayern's tactics Vs. Milan in the CL awhile back, spitting feathers that Magath's attempts to go at Milans were stupid and the man should be sacked immediately.

Well I must accept this is a good point, and quite possibly was a crucial factor in the decision this time around. Doesnt explain the horrendous treatment of Del Bosque for example though.
You are of course correct- loyalty is a facet of football that is at a premium in today's football. Although there is no doubting that clubs in England take on a much more responsible approach to the subject with regards to its managers.
I simply cannot comprehend it ever happening in England where a coach wins the title and gets sacked.
Different mentality, and different cultural set up- the fans own the clubs like Madrid, so their satisfaction at the football being played is a bigger factor in these decisions

Don't forget the nature of this title that Capello won. On head-to-head. ie. barely. Against a Barcelona side with Etoo and Messi injured, many others unfit, always injured, and unmotivated. Valencia with the worst injury crisis in Europe. It's not as if Capello came in, and Madrid were dominant from the first game of the season.
Would it happen again next year if they kept up this style and squad? Probably not.

Re: Capello Sacked
Let me make one thing clear: I abhor Capello. One of my posts about the man touches on all the issues mentioned here. To quote from it: "Calderon and Capello are sacks of $h!t, and they deserve each other".
But from a Real persepective (leaving aside issues of loyalty), this move defies belief. The manager just had a successful season, and to then sack him borders on the absurd (notwithstanding his brand of football).
