    If we are talking going German i'd think about Kevin Kuriyani(SP?) Lahm is a fucking pipedream. He'd cost more than Hargreaves if Bayern were to even consider selling him.

    Contract expires in 2009 and he's not extending. So Summer 2008 be ready for a bidding war with us. Initial estimates were 15-20 million euros, which is a steal.

    Sir Alex believes Cristiano Ronaldo was denied a clear penalty against Fulham because of an unjust reputation as a "diver".

    Ronaldo went down under a challenge from Fulham goalkeeper Antti Niemi in the 79th minute but referee Rob Styles booked the Portuguese winger for simulation.

    Unlike similar incidents where strikers go to ground after pushing the ball too far in front, Ronaldo never looked in danger of losing control. Had Niemi not clipped his heels, Ronaldo would undoubtedly have gone on to tap in his third of the night.

    "The penalty incident is a result of the referee's perceived idea that Ronaldo dives," Sir Alex told Setanta Sports. "There's no question about that. Why would he want to dive? Ronaldo was going full pelt, he was past the goalkeeper, he's on a hat-trick… it was a ridiculous decision."

    The United boss also said Fulham stopper Niemi had "conned" the referee.

    "I think all goalkeepers will try that [to claim they didn't touch the attacker] but it's up to the referee to interpret that. It was the wrong decision – it's as simple as that."

    I don't know about immense in midfield. Carrick came and split the defence 3 times in 20 or so minutes. Something OH didn't do the whole match.

    It's a waste of time playing Hargreaves in midfield in a game like this except it that it builds teamwork for the times when he is inevitably needed.

    ok

    What a disappointment Tevez has been so far by the way. He'd better start playing like one of the best forwards around - there is no way he is currently playing like a £20m player. He's so frustrating, he holds the ball too much and misses easy shots.

    I think you are being very harsh on Tevez, the whole team, apart from Ronaldo, was playing in 2nd/3rd gear.

    Ronaldo took his goals very well, he is slowly getting back into his form of last season. If Rooney picks up from where he left of before he got injured, we are in for some great football this season.

    @Owen

    I am not keen on him either, although he hasnt been as bad as you claim him to have been. He needs to stop missing open goals and holding on to the ball for so long. He definitely is not playing like a £20m forward and he really needs to step his game up, if he wants to stay at OT permanently.

    @Robert

    Carrick played some good passes when he came on, if he does that more often he may win his place back in the team.

    I thought Hargreaves was excellent as a right back, much better than Brown. Against most teams at OT I would play Hargreaves as a right back and Carrick and Anderson in midfield.

    Soccernet's really gone downhill over the past year or so. They still have some useful features like an easy-to-browse stats section for all the major leagues, and good weekly articles by their German, Spanish, and Italian correspondents, but everything else, including most of the usual Premiership opinion pieces, is Cr@p.

    Post by DS Tue Dec 04, 2007 7:04 am

    Haven't read through the thread, so excuse me if I'm repeating what others have said.

    Tevez needs to improve his finishing. He could have had a hattrick inside the first 20 minutes and instead had none. He needs to kick the ball first time in positions either side of the keeper. His heading has let him down as number of times this season also. He needs to improve dramatically in terms of finishing.

    Ronaldo was vital, again. I get the feeling others defer to him and also feel more assured when he is on the pitch. I always worry when we get dependant like that. A quick look at the scoring charts shows that ronaldo leads us, comfortably in both the CL and PL - in the PL he has double the goals of his nearest rival, ffs. This is unacceptable and we need more scorers out there. No one else actually looked like they would score if Ronaldo didn't.

    Fulham's offside trap completely baffled us today. The frustration is all well and good, but they got us well and good a number of times with it today.

    Hargreaves was again poor in the middle. He was 5x better at RB. I feel he is a big problem and is stuttering the whole team when he plays in the middle. I'm getting quite concerned about that now.
    What I am concerned that Fergie misunderstood his role at Bayern, he's an effective runner and a play breaker but not really a DMC , his positioning is really suspect.
    He gets sucked out of position with ease, repeatedly and a better side than Fulham would have punished us for his erroneous positioning today.
    Carrick for his cameo looked brilliant , Anderson looked more assured with Carrick, another thing Carrick adds is that he is always available for a simple pass.
    Maybe there is room for Veloso.
    Rooney looks sharp and him coming back is essential.

    We need that Derby game and we need to put on a sublime performance because our form and performance is not good enough given there's only 1 more meaningful game before the big one.

    Not good enough today by a long shot, but it's great to win when playing poorly.

    Just praising his defensive work. Carrick did well when he came on, should start against Derby to get his form back (played well against Sporting also)

    To be fair as much as I love his style and the way he plays, Tevez misses so many chances it's untrue. Still think he's valuable to the team though.

    Thought Rooney looked good considering its his first game in ages.
