Germany vs Turkey Empty Germany vs Turkey

Post by debaser Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:45 pm

Have I got in first with the thread? Who knows?

Well, who will win? The relationship between Turkey and Germany in the real world adds an interesting dimension.

Can Turkey's luck hold? Surely not, but then, the same was said about Greece, and indeed Turkey themselves going into the qf.

We can only dream that the SF will be a carbon copy of Turkey's QF, with Germany in the Croatia role. They deserve that kind of loss so many times over Wink

If Turkey are behind and come back to win in the last minute with a couple of Hamit Altintop screamers then I suggest you all convert to Islam, what more proof do you need? <Ale> Biggrin

Post-match analysis: I'm trying hard to feel pleased for Turkey, but you really have to feel for Croatia. It was a sensational climax to the game, but you have to think that Germany will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of facing a side in pieces because of injury and suspension. That said, if Joachim Low's side are 3-0 up as the clock ticks down, you still wouldn't bet against the Turks.

Nicked from the Guardian Minute-by-Minute report for the last match.

Germany should let Turkey score one in the first 5 minutes, they wouldn't know what to do with themselves playing from ahead.

Turkey without Tuncay, Arda and Asik, who all got their second yellow.
On paper it will be the easiest semi final ever.

Ouch, didn't realize that. Plus Nihat got a possible injury at the end, and they're already missing the keeper and (possibly?) a couple of defenders. Will they have enough players?

No he won't. Unless they retract his suspension during his appeal, he's suspended for 2 games.

Naaah, a second generation German born and raised, who is good enough to play in Germany's midfield scoring a stunner would be much better.

The Euro schedule, what a joke that is.
Playing Turkey in the semis while Holland have to play Russia and Spain have to play Italy in the quaters.

Even the staunch Germany bashers: For the sake of our beloved sport, could you imagine Turkey in the final:?:

If Turkey by the will of God play well against Germany and win, then they deserve their place, if they fluke it well we can debate. It’s a long shot; I seriously doubt they will trouble Germany.

Germany – Holland final will destroy this place. Only a Liverpool v Man Utd CL final can top this, and the last 2 years we came close affraid

Although showing an anti constitutional sign like that is a crime in Germany, it doesn´t bother me at all.
Seems to be the standard of several posters here.
    I´m getting used to it.

It's still not on. Absolutely not on.

I'm not too pissed off about it, more the manner with which it's being used coupled with the endless and tedious debates of the last fortnight or so.

It hardly like Turkey have been less entertaining than Germany over the tournament. Although the leaving it to the last minute thing is getting a tad over-done (they seem to be trying to out-do themselves each match for ridiculously unlikely comebacks) they'd still be worthy of a spot in the final, should they make it. And it could be a good game, even if it wouldn't have the same fizz as Holland/Italy-Germany does on paper.

I compared them to Greece, but only for the unlikeliness. They haven't been as anti-football (though this game was horrible up to the grand slam finale)
