5 years ago we did beat them twice in the CL, 2-1 at home and 0-2 away.

I'm sure we can do that again. Cool

It's always a great read when you underestimate your opposition Smile.

Btw - check out who is a coach of Unirea. He should provide some interesting comments before the game.

Everton vs Sporting Lisbon - we wouldn't have a chance right now, but hopefully it can look different in a next few months, with Arteta and Jagielka being back.

Jagielka is unlikely to be back for this tie, it was only a couple of weeks ago he had another operation which has set back his recovery (not reported throughout the mainstream media, what a surprise). I'd be surprised if he gets much playing action this season at all.

At least that what his sister tells me.

Interesting draw with lots of interesting fixtures but no single standout game. Ajax-Juve has the history but right now neither (esp. Ajax) are very good.

Some foursomes are quite competitive while others could see some relatively weaker teams get through. Difficult to make predictions of course because each team will have different league/squad circumstances in Feb/March, but my guesses are:

    HSV/Eindhoven – Bilbao/Anderlecht

    Rubin Kazan/Tel Aviv – Wolfsburg/Villarreal

    Atletico Madrid/Galatasaray – Everton/Sporting Lissabon

    Hertha BSC/Benfica – Kopenhagen/Marseille

    Panathinaikos/Rom – Lüttich/Salzburg

    Lille/Fenerbahce – Liverpool/Urziceni

    Ajax/Juventus Turin – Fulham/Donezk

    Brügge/Valencia – Twente/Werder Bremen

I expect Roma to be too caught up in the chase for European spots in Serie A to be able to focus on this tournament. Plus they have Ranieri as coach, and we all know how he does in big knockout games Rolling Eyes

Liege are poor, and don't know that much about Panathinaikos but their results weren't that impressive so I may as well pick a team who dominated their group quite easily.

You know Roma by now, great one day, shite next day... they can lose to anyone, and may not take europa cup that seriously after so many seasons at the CL... I don't doubt their quality, just their temperament. Salzburg have been impressive, and are clearly focussing on this cup. Sometimes that makes all the difference.
