Fulham probably are abou the 10th best team in the EPL though whereas with the talent Atletico have they should be La Liga's Spurs.

Should be an interesting battle on the day but I have a horrible feeeling that Atletico's under achievers will turn it on for the big occasion.

Fulham have the discipline and the talent to beat Atletico. All Hodgson has to do is look at some La Liga games or even Europa League games to see that the way to stopping Atletico is doubling up on the flank and somebody like Zamora always tend to give trouble to Spanish defences. As long as they are willing to go a bit defensive they have a very good chance.

Trust me defensive is our default position. Question I have is how strong is Atletico's midfield? If they are weak there, we will dominate possesion and can play some really good football. If they are strong there, we will be defensive and hit balls to Zamora.

Basically they are weak centrally and they have often struggled when teams have been able to keep their wingers from getting the ball in a good position. The midfield of Assuncao-Thiago isn't not creative and nor do I really think it is that solid. Reyes has helped provide some creativity through the middle since he cuts in as well. However while their defence has improved it is still a weak spot. Except for Dominguez I would sell them all this summer if possible or least replace them.

Somehow though I think Aguero-Forlan-Reyes will provide some magic that will take down Fulham. And those guys on the counter can be a monster.

It would be lovely, but I think Kun and Forlan upfront will just be a step too far for them.

I agree, but it makes me thinking - why spanish clubs aren't looking to bring this kind players, if they could be so deadly against local defenders?

    Can't sleep. A few thoughts

If Zamora isn't fit he shouldn't play at all. Bit harsh on him, but in the games against Hamburg we improved when he was off the pitch.

Likewise if Duff isn't fit. Duff is our X-factor player (i.e. he has a good shot) but he isn't critical.

Paintsil needs to play. When we attack, we attack as a team. With our fullbacks high up the field and midfielders pinning the opposition that can be up to eight players in an advanced position. Baird doesn't get up the field enough.

Gera is our european player of the year and the one I expect to score.

Nevland is the best finsher in the squad and the best if we need to play a counter-attacking game. Won't last more than 30 mins though.

Smaller pitches suit us as most of our players have good technique.

Europa League - Final Empty Re: Europa League - Final

Post by Romford Pele Wed May 12, 2010 11:33 am

Guillem Balague told Revista that Atletico Madrid are "overconfident" heading into Wednesday night's Europa League final against Fulham, who he believes could come away with a first major trophy in their 131-year history.

Both sides rested players ahead of the Hamburg decider, with the strike duo of Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero set to return. And having defeated Liverpool in the semi-finals Guillem says Atletico think they have beaten the strongest of the two English sides.

"Their feeling is one of overconfidence," Guillem told Revista. "They look at the Fulham side and players such as Zamora and Murphy, and say they are rejects. But they shouldn't forget that against Liverpool they were inferior. I think Fulham could be favourites."

However, Terry Gibson feels it could be a tough night for the Cottagers if Atletico can hit top gear in Germany, and states they are stronger at the back since the arrival of Quique Sanchez Flores.

"It will be a difficult game for Fulham if Atletico Madrid perform at their best," said Terry. "It's a big game and Forlan, Simao, Aguero and Reyes are all big-game players.

"Atletico are loaded with attacking talent and since Flores came in they've been more consistent and harder to break down in defence. He's sorted out the back four and brought in 20-year-old Álvaro Domínguez, which has solved their central defensive problems."

Shall we see another La Liga vs EPL destruction ala Sevilla-Middlesbrough or Barcelona-Manchester United? Shall we?

IF IF IF IF Atlético are on today, it could be a blow out. Nice story that of Fulham, but they may wish they weren't so lucky (Fenerbahce, Juventus, Hamburg ties) after facing Atlético de Madrid today. Sí Señores!

Fulham won one away game in the league all season Puro and I doubt they won many on the road to Hamburg. It is highly unlikely they will win. Atletico have a multi million pound team while Fulham have a multi hundred pound team. But looking at those first teams you just never know. Let's hope they make a game of it.
