What does that even mean? Did we ever try to appoint Rafa? No. Villa fans don't like Rafa because he acted like a c**t in the Barry saga. Nothing else.

You were linked with him and I saw quotes on a Villa forum saying things like 'we can do better than him' 'his football isn't right for us' etc

I 100% guarantee that if a manager with Benitez's record, but not Benitez's history with Liverpool was linked with Villa, every fan would welcome the prospect with open arms. Hell, this summer all the forums were abuzz with excitement at the prospect of Solskjaer as manager and he has zero pedigree.

The ONLY reasons Benitez got negative reactions is that a) he managed Liverpool, and like all right-minded people Villa fans hate Liverpool and b) the Barry saga.

Wrong to try and portray Villa fans as snobs or thinking they're above their station for not wanting Benitez when it's nothing to do with his skill as manager and everything to do with personal dislike.

Liverpool had prime Gerrard, Carragher, Hypia, Alonso, Luis Garcia and other such high quality players. He also spent about £16m as soon as he arrived.

Villa haven't got anyone other than maybe Bent who has shown themselves to be top players in the premiership.. And that's arguable. The rest are dodgy kids and just very average players. They also seem to have hardly any money. Rafa has not dealt with quality this low.

He couldn't even manage Inter Milan properly.

Our squad in 2005 was still no way near the quality of a team that wins the CL. Villas squad is championship level but Rafa is a far higher quality manager than any of the names linked with Villa at the time yet Villa fans seemed to think he wouldn't be a good manager for them which is funny. I think Mourinhos a tit but I'd still have have had him here; he knows how to win most of the time.

A liverpool fan could have an argument about Rafa with an empty room.

It's such a pointless hypothesis. This isn't the type of job that Rafa has a track record at being good at, nor is it one he'd be interested in, so why throw his name in the ring.

Add to that, the Barry issue. Incidentally, whilst I rate Rafa, the Barry issue serves as a timely reminder how he thought Gareth Barry was better than Xabi Alonso Ale

A nonsense statement. Your squad in 2005 won the CL, therefore it was the quality of a team that wins the CL.

Villas squad is championship level but Rafa is a far higher quality manager than any of the names linked with Villa at the time yet Villa fans seemed to think he wouldn't be a good manager for them which is funny.

We were also just as distantly linked with AVB and Ancelotti in our various managerial searches over the past 3 seasons, managers of similar pedigree to Benitez. Links that were welcomed and got people excited. It is purely personal dislike with Benitez.

I think Mourinhos a tit but I'd still have have had him here; he knows how to win most of the time.

Same could be said for Alex Ferguson. I take it Liverpool fans would be universally happy if he was linked with your club?

Villa fans are pathetic if thy hate Rafa based on him trying to sign Barry. I think we all know why Liverpoolmfans hate Sir Alex; about 20 + years of incidents in which he's showed is hatred for Liverpool and vice versa.

Fergie hates Liverpool? Seems he simply understands and respects the depth of the rivalry and wants to beat them as a result. That's what great managers do. Never seen any evidence that its deeper then that

I'm not directly comparing Liverpool-Ferguson to Villa-Benitez, merely illustrating that fans don't judge managers neutrally.

At least you're now on the road to conceding that Villa fans' dislike of Benitez is personal. I consider that a victory. Well done, me Ale
