you WOULD expect the English U-21 to play for their lives
it was the first match at Wembley; they still could not win
the German U-21 was missing MANY now "senior" players
besides, we lost because Castro, a Spanish traitor, missed his penalty

still, Platt is concerned BIG TIME; ditto Henry Winter, one of England's biggest hypers
that should be cause for concern
even worse, whereas Platt understands that something has to happen, he still believes the Lampard, Cashley... hype and would include them in his first eleven
Hargreaves he just throws out
in other words, one of the few Englanders who understands the gravity of the situation, is still HYPING the lambs LIKE MAD
England are in serious trouble
What you have just done is hit the nail on the head, but totally unintentionally.
When the England side is ready to play a tournament, the hype machine goes into overdrive.
When England are struggling a little in the qualifiers, the criticism machine goes into overdrive.
Nobody likes a balanced opinion- it doesnt sell papers.
England are neither as good OR bad as either would have you believe.
I note how, with almost boyish glee, you jump upon quoting and championing the criticism, yet rubbish the overinflated hype - the source is still the same so its either a load of crap or its not, it cant be both reliable and unreliable.
Your excuses for the u21 mauling versus the 3 lambs is hilarious- England were missing Ashton, Bent, Lennon, Foster for a start, hell even Rooney could have played.
And 3-3 versus the Italians , who are the most successful u21 nation in Europe shows anything but problems with the new crop, especially the long periods of domination.
The period when the u21's were the most unsuccessful was, suprise suprise, when Platt was manager
