Intelligent footballers
Who do you condsider to be the most intelligent players at your club.( I'm not talkig about IQs but rather game day intelligence, for example....reading of the play, positioning, conning the ref,etc...)

Re: Intelligent footballers
For Newcastle, Solano is the obvious choice. Hes always been exceptional at passing the ball and making our team flow better, moves well off the ball as is shown by the number of goals hes scored for us in his time, and he has been good at right back since his move there because he does understand the game so well. He also links well with the players around him.
Its probably somewhat the case that Newcastle have a lot of talented players, players with a lot of ability, but not that many that are really intelligent. People like Milner, Parker, Duff all have talent but theyre not really intelligent players. Emre and N'Zogbia are a bit better, but Emre isnt dynamic or consistent enough for it to show. Dyer can make clever runs when hes in the mood. And for people like Milner, Zogbia and Martins, theyll improve as time passes. Taylor is starting to read the game well in defence.
I actually think Hugo Viana was one of the last players Newcastle had who really could work the game through his passing. You could see from the limited time he got on the pitch, at least when he first arrived and hadnt lost confidence. His passes would be simple, he wouldnt hit long balls, but they would be in to peoples feet, often to players who had little space, then hed move off the ball once he had passed it and create the space. He would constantly want the ball and look to play one-twos and things. I always liked him as a player.

Re: Intelligent footballers
Bergkamp was the obvious one at Arsenal but hes left now.
Fabregas is unbelievably intelligent in how to move the ball forward and then move into space afterwards. Rosicky may be better technically than Cesc but he cant play central midfeild whereas Cesc can keep the ball moving forward then slip behind the other teams players to get a return pass.

Re: Intelligent footballers
Solano, that's pretty much it, Dyer and Milner sometimes show some brains though. We have alot of idiots in our side, some of our better players are idiots - Parker, Butt, Martins. Taylor's reading of the game has improved considerably this season, but every now and then he loses his head and does something stupid.

Re: Intelligent footballers
In terms of positional awareness: Makelele, Terry, Cech.
In terms of having a good football brain: Carvalho, Mikel, Ballack, Makelele, Diarra, Sheva (for his runs).

Eto'o is basically too high strung.. he has a good heart but I don't think he is too clever.
Deco never says much, and Iniesta and Xavi only talks about Barcelona
Márquez is a moron..

Oleguer is probably no. 1 for off-field intelligence, and no. 23 (basically last) for on-field intelligence

Our most obvious ones would be Scholes, Carrick and Giggs. Then on the next level Rio and Rooney.
