I'm not really sure to be honest. There are good arguments for both sides, but I tend to keep the current system, simply because it has worked well in the last 15 or so years. Going back to relegation play offs is not really necessary.

Personally I strongly oppose these plans, not only because we may be affected ourselves, but because it's much tougher to finish 3rd in the 2. Bundesliga than 16th in the Bundesliga. The 2. Bundesliga is traditonally very even, at least the top teams. You need normally ca. 60 points to finish 3rd, whereas 16th palced teams in the Bundesliga have only about 30-35 points, i.e. one win in tree games.
So to ruin an excellent season for a 2nd division side by 2 games, in which a wrong referee decision may be decisive, is rather unfair.

Yep. Next year we will have a 'proper' 3. Bundesliga, Regionalliga Nord and Süd will be history. That's why this season is going to be crucial, especially for the second teams of the big Bundesliga clubs, e.g. Werder Bremen II. They have to qualify for the new league with a decent finish in the Regionalliga, otherwise it's down to the Oberliga.

Can see the big clubs sending some of their first teamers for help if $h!t hits the fan.

Leipzig are in the Oberliga, so that's two divisions below. Dresden are in the Regionalliga Nord, the third division in Germany.

Thanks. So Dresden are above Leipzig at present?

Agree with all of your points. The 2. Bundesliga is really underrated, and I can see where you are coming from.

I think the reason why they want to introduce the relegation play offs again is a) excitement, and b) more stability in the 1. Bundesliga, giving smaller clubs more of a chance to remain there, and establish themselves.

Dresden definitely were, but had a huge financial scandal that really hurt them. They are now on their way back up, let us wait and see how things will work out.

Leipzig weren't AFAIK, at least I can't remember them being in the 1. Bundesliga.

Like I said in the past, I want every bigger city in Germany to be represented in the 1. Bundesliga. Dresden is definitely one of them. We already have record breaking attendances, but with the likes of Dresden, Köln, Gladbach and 1860 München etc. back, it would be even more impressive. And more importantly, we could revive some traditional rivalries that are really missing these days.

Agree with this, though I may add it's also a possibility to create some extra money (one (sold out) home game, live TV-broadcasting).
It's especially unfair as most promoted teams would have to buy some quality players to avoid relegation in the next season. So their current squad will normally be weaker than that of the bundesliga side, simply because they cannot afford that many good players ( as I said, TV alone is 10Mio €)

Are you talking about Sachsen Leipzig or Lokomotive Leipzig, the latter were in the bundesliga in the 1993/94 season (then as VfB Leipzig, not really to confuse with the first German champion VfB Leipzig)

Hey, I just said that I could not remember them being in the 1. Bundesliga. And 93/94 is not 'end of the 90s'. Razz

Leipzig is what we call "graue Maus" (literally: "grey mouse"), one of those clubs neutrals normally don't care about, that are just there. Hannover is a prime example of such a club (don't let Wiebke read this though).

To be honest, I could only remember there was a "VfB Leipzig" in the Bundesliga in the early 90s, so I had to look this one up as well. There is quite a mess with the names of Lok and VfB Leipzig, so I wasn't sure if it really was Lok under a different name or not. Btw, the newly founded Lok Leipzig is in the 5th division, afaik.

Paulo Odone, President of Porte Alegre, has declared that Carlos Eduarto goes to Chelsea . The transfer fee is 7Mio € +0.5Mio € if he makes at least 25 matches and another 0.5Mio € if Chelsea get promoted. Chelsea will gain 80 of the transfer rights of Carlos Eduardo, i.e. Porto Alegre wil earn on his next transfer.
However, the Chelsae board has denied the ccontract is already perfect.
Meanwhile, there are strong suggestions that 22year old striker Demba Ba from Moeskron will leave to Chelsea as well for3Mio €.

Chelsea hope these transfers will help them to gain last spot from Augsburg, who still have an inferior goal difference.

One of the best starts in our history indeed. At the moment it seems we are in a very good form, however we have now two very difficult matches against Köln and Aachen, so we will know where we really stand. MAny experts name us as contentors for promotion, but I and most fans are a little more sceptical. It seems some players are a little bit overachieving at the moment and things just tend to go our way. Our aim is to finsish better than last season (8th place), which is a realistic aim, but we may just lack the last few points for promotion.

As for Kaiserslautern, I certainly had and still have them as possible contentors for promotion. They drew with Gladbach and lost to us and Fürth, so they had a very tough opening season. You will have to wait for the upcomong matches to see where they're heading this season.

Seems Hoffenheim is close to sign Brazilian U20 international Carlos Eduardo from Gremio Porto Alegre. The transfer fee is supposed to be around 9m Euro. Hertha BSC, FC Porto and Paris St. Germain were also interested...

Hoffenheim is a second devision club owned and sponsored by German billionaire and SAP founder Dietmar Hopp.

Just shows once more, that all you need is enough money... Rolling Eyes

If the transfer takes place, Hoffenheim has spend about 17Mio € on transfers, which is just behind Bremen. Demba Ba is 95% sure to come as well, according to his agent. This would put Hoffenheim second to Bayern only in whole Germany. Rolling Eyes
Even more ridiculous, if you consider they have an etat of about 13Mio €, and after the season started they just spend another 14Mio € (+ wages) on Edu and Eduardo. Of course not the club's money but Mr Hopp's.

If they invest after all, they should have gone for several good players rather than for a star player, because the team as a whole is simply $h!t and one or two players won't make it better.
We scored three goals, hit the post and bar each and had a clear penalty + red card turned down while they had only two noteworthy chances, even though we played rather mediocre last Sunday.

Early days, can't see them getting relegated from the 2. Bundesliga, they have more than enough quality in their squad, and one of the biggest budgets of the league. However, they need to get their act together if they want to get promoted back to the 1. Bundesliga this year, their main goal of the season.
