Re: CARRAGHER TO QUIT ENGLAND
Don't really understand the controversy here.
Non-Liverpool fans are happy because they don't think he's any good for England.
As a Liverpool fan I'm delighted because it means he'll be fresh to play for us.
Here's hoping Gerrard and Crouch take international retirement next.

Re: CARRAGHER TO QUIT ENGLAND
Carra is a legend.
Jamie Carragher has angrily rejected suggestions that he does not have the stomach to fight for his place in the England team.
The Liverpool defender is considering his international future after growing increasingly frustrated at his lack of chances in the team.
Carragher has yet to make a definite decision on his international future, but concedes it is likely he will quit playing for England.
The 29-year-old was furious after it was suggested in an interview he was taking the easy way out and he hit back at the slur.
"Don't ever call me a bottler on radio with all those thousands of people listening," Carragher said on talkSPORT.
"I've had the stomach to fight for my place for the last eight years.
"All I can do is play as well as I can for Liverpool. I've never played that well for England because I've played a lot of the time at full-back.
"There's that many people he's [England manager Steve McClaren] played ahead of me. It's a game of opinions.
"But when you're at my age they are all younger than me, they are all going to improve and maybe I won't at my age.
"I'm 29, I've been doing it for eight years and obviously I haven't proved it enough so it's not going to change now is it?
"It's not like I've just got in the squad and I've jumped out.
"At the moment it's not 100 per cent official because I've still got to speak to the manager before the next game.
"But it's looking like that and as I said, if there was a major injury crisis and the four centre-halves who he obviously picks ahead of me are all injured and he's absolutely desperate then of course I would (come back), yeah."

And others. Particularly like this
'it was then that the muthafuka carrrager who thinks he can take an england cap for granted just exploded lyk he does with his wife and kids except he implodes da muthafuka da fukin scouser has left gerrard alone in da england team now'
Presumably from Oscar Wilde. And he's clearly forgotten that England's no 1 striker is a Red.

Re: CARRAGHER TO QUIT ENGLAND
Carra has not had many chances for England, and is not at his best as a right back. Basically, as someone else has pointed out elsewhere, he's competing with Terry for a place and so he'll always lose out because Terry is captain.
It's a great disservice to a player who has always given his all for England to call him a bottler though. He volunteered to take a penalty - OK he missed it - but that's not a player who's afraid.
As I said, I think everyone's a winner. Can't believe it's caused so much controversy.

Re: CARRAGHER TO QUIT ENGLAND
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A24626793
Jamie Carragher's public profile is low-key to the point of invisibility - light years away from the cult of celebrity that has submerged England's under-achieving national team.
So it is ironic that Liverpool defender's decision to consider his England future has brought so much attention to a player who is happy to stay well beneath the radar of publicity.
And Carragher added fuel to the fire by ringing a radio station in fury at being branded a bottler by a presenter - even appearing to suggest a good old-fashioned Scouse straightener next time they meet.
Carragher should have brushed off such ignorant and ill-informed insults.
A "bottler" does not play as he has for Liverpool and England in recent seasons - or volunteer to take a penalty in a World Cup quarter-final shoot-out when other colleagues stood back.
And a bottler certainly does not have every major club honour bar the title in his trophy cabinet.
The serious question is whether Carragher is right to end his England career to concentrate on helping Liverpool finally mount a serious Premier League title challenge.
And I believe he is.
England coach Steve McClaren's treatment of one of Europe's finest defenders has arguably been more insulting than having Carragher's courage questioned by someone specifically paid to provoke such a debate.
McClaren might just swing the idea of picking Ledley King ahead of him in the absence of the injured Rio Ferdinand in Estonia, although I would still have picked Carragher.
But the selection of Wes Brown - not even outstanding in his favoured position of centre-back - instead of Carragher as right-back was surely the final straw.
McClaren will disagree but this was a desperately poor and inexplicable decision.
And it rightly crystalised doubts Carragher already had in his mind about his role with England.
Why should he, at 29 and with limited time remaining at the top left, turn up for England and be treated in such a fashion?
And sorry, I don't buy all the hysterical 'three lions' jingoism that states that the call of your country comes above all else.
It certainly doesn't in the north of England.
Ask Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City fans whether country comes before club and I'd wager a large amount on the majority answering in the negative.
Sorry if this comes as a shock to some but most football fans put club before country every time.
At this stage of his career, Carragher does not need to prove his quality or worth to McClaren.
He has been doing that for years against the finest strikers in the world at home and abroad.
And he also has no need to turn up for a few five-a-sides or a McClaren coaching masterclass only to sit in the stands at the end of it all.
If McClaren wanted to send a message to Carragher that his England future was behind him, then picking Brown ahead of him in Estonia did the job.
Carragher had every right to be insulted and decide to focus on Liverpool.
England is not the be-all and end-all for Carragher. Liverpool is and that is why he has decided to channel all his efforts into winning more trophies with the Merseysiders.
This is not the decision of a bottler, it is an understandable move by a player who has made a realistic assessment of his England future.
Liverpool will be the beneficiaries, as will their fans, who would not mind another 10 "bottlers" like Carragher in their side.

no offence but how does a player who has never reached the level that carragher has consistently reached for the past few seasons get proclaimed as being MUCH better ???
does the ability to bring the ball out of defence really influence people's opinion this heavily ?????

It's hilarious.
Jamie: "You come down to Anfield and say it to my face and we'll see what happens then, eh?
Bloke: "I would say it to your face"
Jamie: "Yeah well, you come down to Anfield and watch me in the CL and we'll see"
It turns from him calling the bloke out for a fight to him inviting him to a CL game.
