City to move for Castillo ! Empty City to move for Castillo !

    Post by Sgoater1 Mon Jul 16, 2007 9:37 pm

Manchester City have made a move for Olympiakos star Nery Alberto Castillo, according to reports in Greece.

Castillo is contracted to Olympiakos until 2010, but they are ready to offer him a double-your-money contract in order to fend off big interest from around Europe.

The 23-year-old, who agreed to join Manchester United as a 16-year-old before a work-permit wrangle ruled out the move, is now the subject of immense interest.

Greek sources claim both Shakhtar Donetsk and City have lodged offers for the player - but Olympiakos are ready to fight hard to keep Castillo.

The midfielder is married to a Greek woman, which Olympiakos hope will mean he is likely to stay - but it also frees him to move across Europe as an EU national without any restrictions.

Castillo is due to meet Olympiakos officials on Tuesday to discuss his future.

fantastic, i just hope he doesnt stay at olympiakos. if he goes to man city he should surely get plenty of chances on the wing/as forward

If you get him he will be a fantastic signing. He was absolutely brilliant in the Copa America. From what I have seen he looks best up front playing just off the main striker.

i'd say left midfield/second forward, he's a player he needs the ball and can work wonders with it. he can take on players and is suprisingly strong/physical for his height/weight he fights back (just watch him vs Onyewu and Alex) and has a decent shot. He always drifts back to help out with the midfield regardless of his position in the team, his main fall back is his decision making, where sometimes he will dribble a little to much but that can easily be broken. He also has great heart, i remember seeing him twice come back and be the last defender on occasion. in the brazil game everyone was committed forward on a corner and it got knocked out for a quick counter and castillo was the first man back to save a 2v1 for a corner ok

Yeah plus he is strong coming insde onto his right foot. He is very exciting and would be a great player to have. He has very fast feet and great control with the ball, so much so sometimes it looks like its stuck to his foot, plus when it does slip away from him he has the pace to get to it.

Plus he is 23 and can get better and better...hopefully under Sven. <Ale>

By the way how much is he valued at ?

im not sure tbh, i know he is under contract till 2010 and olympiakos do want to keep him. i have no idea.

I forgot to mention that as well , although he tends to stick to his left foot as much as possible from what ive seen he has a decent right foot as well

Very Happy I hope so mate, i really do. I plan on getting a Mexico shirt if he signs. Sadly Ste Ireland has the number 7 shirt, Hamann has 21 and Bianchi10 so i dont know what number he would get, maybe 8 or 15.

If you had to guess do you think it could be as much as £10-15m ? i guess it depends on if he wants to come cos if he does then we can offer a lot of money to force Olympiakos to sell if Sven really wants him. Has he spoken about leaving Olympiakos recently ?

i would say it would be close to 10m pounds. He hasnt exactly said he wants to leave but im sure he will. His dad is his agent (i believe) and i remember in an interview he said that many european clubs have contacted him about castillo (he only named chelsea) and said that they will wait till after copa america to begin any discussions so he can concentrate about mexico right now. I am 99.9% sure he will leave though.

Castillo would be a fantastic signing, just hope you aren't getting your hopes up too much though goater.

With Olympiakos so keen to keep him the deal seems very unlikely

Do you really think Olympiakos have any pulling power over him when there's a chance for a (relatively) big money move to a top league?

He has a contract until 2010.

Olympiakos can therefore push the fee up by a considerable amount
