Uefa Country Ranking 2007 Empty Uefa Country Ranking 2007

Post by Luso Wed Aug 23, 2006 9:04 pm

So I guess the ranking, namely what position each country will hold, is somewhat of a debate with some people. Got this quote from another site:

"Romania on 5th after this year?
    Author: doctor
    Date: 15-07-2006, 18:00

after q1 and q2 of UC and q2 of CL Romania will have over 31 points so neherland is outscored.Portugal is too week with only 3 mediocre teams and 3 very week teams ,the battle will be with Germany. Good luck Romania. "

    What do you guys think?

Right now it looks like this:

    lamps,

I know, I couldn't believe this guy. I'm not registered on that forum so I couldn't say anything, but I think the fact that Carlos went from Boavista to being the best keeper in Romania says something.

He just walked right into the championship winning club...and he has the balls to call our clubs mediocre Laugh Doh

Remind the kid that those 3 mediocre teams have more Uefa,Cup winners cup CL and European Champios Cups wins and finals together than France,Greece,Romenia,Russia,Scotland,Bulgaria and the Czech Republic all put together.

Where do they find this idiots?

And yet still our quality is always in question. I hate that our clubs are poor, that's the only thing holding them back.

Almost every 'Enlgish' sports site has the following leagues: Prem; La Liga; Serie A; Eridevise; SPL, but never Portugal.

When will our clubs get the recognition they deserve? Porto wins the stupid CL and everyone calls it a fluke, if it was Lyon they'd say they had a quality team. Despite Porto having had players like Carvalho, Maniche, Deco, Costinha etc.

Even the famous 'Benfica would be relegated from the Prem' ...well at least that one has turned into a good joke against these kinds of fools Laughing

i think there is only a minimal chance to overcome germany in the ranking for portugal

3 teams in CL, and with Schalke an uefa cup winner contender

Leverkusen can do well in UEFA cup too, maybe better than schalke, but i think there squad is not big enough

when you look at the points, germany achieved in the season 03/04, that was horrible, i think germany can only battle for the 3 or 4 place again when this dammit year is not guily anymore, thats gonna happen in 2009 i think

Unjustly of course, Portuguese league is much much better than SPL for example. [no bundesliga though?]

Not really, MaisFutebol has a good stats page, and good coverage of the CL http://www.maisfutebol.iol.pt/lcamp.php and of the SuperLiga
But you are right about marketing tough
Another problem is that the sites are generally in Portuguese only, what does not help
They should do a variant in English.

Still we go to the point Luso was making. Portuguese clubs in general do not have the same financial power than their European counterparts
If we did, we might fight for more honours in this new CL format.

Nice to see the ball is rolling...

Ok, so first point: Deisler and Ricardo, I was pretty much joking on the catching Germany thing, I just want our clubs to keep the position they have...if anything else is possible great.

2nd: DD, good to see you agree on the money point, as for the Bundesliga...sorry guys forgot to mention them as it's a staple league as well.

3rd: Frank, you're right the sites are generally UK sites, I didn't explain myself very well with the 'English' claim...I meant 'English' speaking sites. Still, I think our league has historically done enough in Europe to be more respected and deserves looking at. What has the French league won in comparisson for example?

Ricardo is absolutely right about the marketing of the Portuguese league though. It's pretty much the big 3 and that's it. You look on 'Abola' and you can find an actuall 'tracker' of their league position for the year...are we to just ignore the rest of the league?
    ---------------------------
The web sites reflect the population, the big 3 are the ones that sell the sportspapers and tv rights... things seem to be changing a little, but we still need more affirmation from fans of the 'medium' clubs: Braga, Guimaraes, Boavista etc.

The guys in charge seem to think it's just not worth the effort to advertise to a foreign audience...but look at the FPF's site, it's crap too!

Its very stupid, but we don't regularly count them. Even the sports newspapers that have all these things, they don't keep the records!

Nope they don't, and it's quite strange when you think about players being praised for the amount of goals they provide for other players.

Remember João Pinto in the championship winning season? Almost for every Jardel goal, there was a JVP assist, and he got a lot of credit for it.
