No surprise there, that was expected (Romania climbing up). The ranking will look different at the end of the season indeed, not just because the other countries will do better, but Romania now having 5 teams in the competition, instead of 3, which was a huge advantage.

    Laugh

We lost our best year, but still have our shittiest in the ranking (4.714 points). Next year, when that shitty result won't count anymore, we will seriously challenge France for the fourth place even.

Mid- and long term goal has to be claiming back a top 3 spot though, because it doesn't make a difference if you are ranked 4th or 6th, the same number of CL spots.

Why the f@ck is so hard to spell a countries name correctly I'll never know.

blutgraetsche, you say you have your shittiest year in the ranking (4.714 points). So do we (4.333). If Germany does 10 points this year (witch would be great for you), we only need to have about 7.5.

Your problem is: Getting 7.5 points with 5 teams is much harder than 11.33 points with 3, especially knowing the structure of the Romanian league, with a few Bucharest clubs clealry dominating.

If you manage to stay in the top 6 at the end of the season, and I expect you to do so, you'll probably play with 6-7 teams the season after even, making it even harder to earn points.

And that's when things will look different again.

I have no problem with that. Playing with 6 teams (3 in the CL) for a few years (1-2-3) it's all I want. After that we will probably drop but still in the 7-9 place that will let us have 2 teams in the CL.

7.5 * 5 teams = 37.5 points. Last year Steaua, Rapid and Dinamo made 34 points. It will be close but we could do it.

Recent performances (& the money the clubs won) must have been a great boost for Romanian football. What kind of effects does it have?

The money for one thing. Steaua had a budget of 10 mil Euro a few years ago. This year we have a budget of 30 mil. And the rest of clubs had to follow. Even the smaller ones. This season we have 5 teams that will fight for the title.

Then the mentality. Steaua beating Valencia 3 years ago was the turning point. We saw that we can win games and play some good football.

The only thing I don't like about these cooefficients is that they give equal weightage for UEFA Cup & CL games - that makes the club ranking a bit unfair. Coz last season Sevilla were given 31 points, and Milan 27 points Doh In my book, the CL winner HAS to get more points than the UEFA Cup winner, no matter how they played or how many games they won.

Other than that, this is as accurate system of measuring performance as any, and usually gets things right.

While allowing Palermo to put out a second team again? Make it favourable for nations to have leagues with four good teams, rather than seven? The system exists because of the bias on the CL at the moment, without making it even more important.

Dwarf is 100% right. And I would add: if a country like Romania makes more points in the UEFA Cup then Germany in the CL then maybe Germany doesn't deserve to have 3 teams in the CL. This is what the rankings are all about: to see how many competitive teams a country has.

bluenine, in theory you can make more points in the CL then in the UEFA Cup but it's easyer to make the points in UEFA. This doesn't mean Sevilla is better then Milan but it makes a more even playing field for the teams. This way the UEFA Cup winner will not be in the last pot of the CL group stage.

Expect us to finish 5th after this season, Romania 6th. Next year, we will get rid of our worst year, so we can seriously challenge France for the 4th spot, who will lose their best year respectively.

Romania finishing 6th means that they will have to play with 6-7 teams next season, making it even more difficult for them to collect points.
