Valencia sign Nikola Zigic

El Valencia se hace con los servicios de Zigic por cinco temporadas

El Valencia ha cerrado, a falta de pasar el pertinente reconocimiento médico, el fichaje del ariete internacional serbio del Racing de Santander Nicola Zigic, que firmará un contrato por cinco temporadas, según confirmó el club valencianista. El delantero de 26 años y 2,02 metros de altura llegó la pasada temporada al club cántabro procedente del Estrella Roja de Belgrado, y en su primer año en la competición española llamó la atención de muchos equipos al firmar 11 goles y repartir 5 asistencias.

El montante de la operación, aunque no ha sido confirmado por el club, podría rondar los 20 millones de euros, una cifra que incluye el sueldo del jugador durante las cinco temporadas que vestirá la camiseta del Valencia.

Con la contratación de Zigic, al técnico Quique Sánchez Flores sólo le falta un mediocentro organizador para dar por cerrada la plantilla. Los nombres del sueco Kim Kallstrom (Olympique de Lyon), el argentino Lucho González (Oporto) y del portugués del Benfica Manuel Fernandes, son los que suenan con más fuerza para ocupar dicha demarcación.

Racing's president was insisting they hold out 20m. for Zigic. What did they pay for him last year, about 10m? Not a bad return. Of course now, Racing will have to depend only on Munitis.

Zigic is a very good player but he's not worth 20M.

IMO a pointless move. They already have target men in the form of el Moro and Arizmendi. Even Silva and Angulo can play as forwards.

I thought they were going for Anelka.

Zigic should be a very good option for Valencia next year. £20m Euros is a huge fee for him though. It shows how much his career has come on when he was being quoted to us for around £4m two years ago.

They've put together an impressive squad none-the-less and Quique is probably going to still try and add another midfielder (i.e. Kallstrom).

Looks like you'll have to settle for 3rd position unless Sevilla have an amazing season in which case you'll have to settle for 4th

We were in for him but im very happy we didnt pay 20m euros, whats that £15m ? thats way to much, id rather have Yakubu for £10-12m.

The reports now seem to be 15 million euros, which is still a lot IMO, because I don't see the point of the signing. Quique doesn't always play a 4-4-2, and they have a glut of attacking midfielders anyway.

I think Bremen were also interested to sign him, but we don´t pay so much more than a player is actually worth.

The funny thing is, he will only earn about 1m per season at Valencia. Even at Werder Bremen he probably would have earned much more.

we payed over the odds but it further adds to our strength in depth and i have faith in who quique wants

im almost betting on valencia to win the title allthough this signing only gives them a better squad but it still seems a bit pointless since they signed arizmendi.

Way over the odds. Half it to 10 million, and then it looks about right. But at least Valencia are showing a bit of transfer prowess to bring in one of Spain's top forward from last season. Zigic is better than Mista, who was very good in the 2003/04 title campaign, so all looks good. Excited about the opening games now. Really wish they were this weekend in line with the Premiership, but at least we have the Super Cup....
