12 pts would be lovely. But we're bound to slip up in at least one. Especially need to avoid defeat at Everton, to stop them from joining the 4th chasing group..

Hardly perfect, they spent close to £30m on Milner, Harewood, Sidwell and Davies.

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Fair enough. Its all dependent upon the perspective. Of the above i would say only Harewood has been a failure. Davies is pretty good and in time i think Sidwell and Milner will turn out to be good as well. Btw Villa really need to get some good cover in for Young and Gabby or they will get screwed.Kimbo wrote:forza_rossi wrote:Villa are like the perfect blue print for a growing ambitious club. Re: Aston Villa Thread
Great result yesterday to solidify 5th, keeping Everton and Portsmouth at arm's length. Also very nice to be 10pts+ ahead of the likes of City & Spurs at this stage.
Bolton(h) then Ham(a), before Arsenal again on boxing day. Need to get at least 4pts from the next two in order to be within striking distance of Arsenal when we play them. And really should be getting 6pts if we've any serious ambition for 4th. The Bolton game is exactly the type we tend to draw/lose, following a good result (see Fulham, last week).

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Worrying news for us... Possible good news for Arsenal.
Skipper Injury Worry
Martin Laursen is an injury concern ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Arsenal.
The Villa skipper has had scans on his knee and is now waiting on the results, after experiencing some pain the day after the West Ham victory.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill told AVTV: "At the moment I don't know the full details.
"Martin came off the field against West Ham and felt fine.
"Then yesterday evening, he started to feel a pain in his knee and obviously got in touch with the physios and the doctor.
"He has gone for some scans this afternoon and we are now waiting for the results. Fingers crossed, it won't be too serious but I don't know yet."

The type of defender who, when faced with a 6'4 brick shithouse with flailing arms, would still be up for every header and challenge, without having to jump on the floor crying

well if you're serious about challenging for a CL spot you need to have less imaginary players and more wonderkids and big name expensive signings. Just a tip

The Togolese Zidane and The Hare are two of the league's most respected and talented players. The fact that they've played less than 90 mins between them in the league this season should not be seen as any way disproving this FACT

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Henri Camara has said he wants to go on loan to get more playing time.
Would be a good signing for Villa, if he had Carew fighting for the strikers position.
Attack trio of Young, Camara and AlBangAWhore would be very quick.
Cheaper alterative to signing Defoe, also

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Either way I dont understand why they'd think of bringing in Camara as a replacement for Carew. It would surely be a situation of one or the other depending on the opposition, not one or the other depending on how hard they work in training. One is full of pace and fairly skillful..the other is a brick shithouse.

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Hmm. Maybe. Can't help but think if he can't hardly get in Wigan's team he's not going to be much of a step up from Harewood/Delf. While I agree he'd be much cheaper than Defoe, chances are he'd also score a lot less than Defoe.TM wrote:Henri Camara has said he wants to go on loan to get more playing time.

Hmm, it's one for O'Neil to ponder IMO. Harry Rednapp said there was a "big" offer in for Defoe. So it would be a cheaper alternative, and not a bad one either; strong, quick, good finishing.

Re: Aston Villa Thread
I'm sure the commentator said his goal the other week was his first in the prem for 2 or 3 yrs. Maybe he hasn't played alot in that time, but that in itself would not be a good sign.
Didn't he spend a whole season on loan at Ham last time out without scoring, or doing anything of note?
We really need a proven alternative to Agbonlahor (to take the pressure off him as our main source of goals). Camara ain't good enough for a top 4 side, if that's what we're aiming to be.

Re: Aston Villa Thread
So it looks like the re-union the world has waited for: Martin O'Neill and Emile Heskey.
He will fill a John Carew-shaped hole in the team. And if he does that mythical drawing-in-defenders thing that he sometimes does for England, it could work very well in making space for Gabby & Young to run behind. Plus, he should be able to get on the end of a few crosses (okay, he's never been, and likely never will be prolific. But a few goals is feasible..)
It might be a bit unsophisticated, whatever, but defences won't like having Heskey battering them and Gabby sprinting past them for 90 mins. And when Carew gets back, options will be increased (although Carew-Heskey seems unlikely to work).
So, if this is true, I'm happy. A solid signing, to bolster team/squad where we are weakest. Possibly the end for Harewood.
And if we snuck in another signing before the end (a promising young winger/striker, maybe?) I'd be very happy.

Re: Aston Villa Thread
Rah rah. We already play quite direct, and if Carew was fit, he'd be in the team doing the holding up thing. As it is, the ball generally doesn't get held up too well and we often concede possession cheaply from punts upfield (Laursen & Cuellar, prime hoofers)
It's about having a mix. You can't have all you pacy attackers. Need someone to do the dirty work too.
Plus we're one step closer to being able to provide the whole England team
