I had expected the newly promoted traditional powerhouses to do well this season, but even I didn't expect all 3 of them to be in the top 10 after 5 weeks!! This is good for Italian football!!

Re: Serie A - The 2007-08 season thread
Big games this weekend, with the spotlight firmly on the bitter rivalry between Fiorentina and Juventus, and the battle for the second spot... we should get a better idea what stuff these sides are made of this weekend.
Injury plagued Lazio vs Ronaldo-less Milan is the battle of the seasons underachievers, with at least one teams woes are going to increase many fold... Ancellotti/Rossi's jobs are on the line here.
Overachievers Napoli face their day of reckoning when they travel to San Siro to face champions Inter, these are the kind of games Napoli fans have been waiting for, and with Ibra expected to be on the bench, they might just cause an upset.
Just another weekend in Serie A...
Other games:
Atalanta - Udinese
Catania - Livorno
Genoa - Cagliari
Palermo - Reggina
Parma - Roma
Siena - Empoli
Torino - Sampdoria

Any truth in these rumours about Kaka and Ancelotti falling out, over the player's refusal to play down the right wing, like Ancelotti told him to?

Don't quote me on this, but I think Channel 5 are showing the Viola V Old Lady game.
Lazio have had a very poor start, but IMO they can do Milan over. If they do, then Milan are in danger of being out of the title race before ten games!

Berlusconi Rejected Chance To Sign Buffon
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon had a pre-contract deal to sign for Milan this summer but Rossoneri President Silvio Berlusconi pulled the plug on the deal. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Buffon had agreed a four-year contract, worth €6m a season, but Berlusconi stopped the transfer from going through because it would have cost him €25m. Instead the former Prime Minister of Italy wanted to spend this money on renewing the contract of Brazilian keeper Dida, and bringing in youngster Alexandre Pato and midfielder Emerson.
Milan fans will surely be dismayed by the news that Buffon could have signed for the club. So far this season Dida has made a number of high-profile mistakes, particularly during the week three draw against Siena, while 31-year-old Emerson looks a shadow of the once great player he was. The Milan hierarchy have been criticised enormously for their transfer policy over the summer, with the failure to bring in a top-class striker and a decent back-up goalkeeper the main points of condemnation. These latest reports that Berlusconi turned down the chance to sign the undisputed number-one goalkeeper in the world, will certainly not go down well with the supporters

Berlusconi and/or whoever runs Milan's transfers have made a total and utter mess of it this summer. Any idiot could see Dida isn't good enough, and another striker besides Pato is needed.

They let go an option on Buffon
IMO Buffon is as much of a matchwinner as a Ibra or a Kaka. I mean, even tho Cesar is doing a splendid job at Inter at the mo, I wouldn't mind if Inter paid a lot of money to exchange him with Buffon... its a no brainer!!

Juve had had a bit of a tough start to the league in honesty. Should be a cracker of a game though

How nice of you to show interest. These are the two sides you rate below Villareal are they not?
It should be an even game. Both team are attacking so it should be good on the eyes. I expect Juventus to deploy fast counter attacks and play in teh same way they did against Roma. I hope we win this as I have a intuition that Inter will drop points to Napoli.

Shouldn't you have been discussing the UEFA Cup game you had yesterday?
Prandelli started his main team, so I guess there will be a lot of tired viola players this sunday. I suspect Vieri will be rested, doubt he can start 2 games in 4 days anymore. You can't rest Mutu, he will probably start with Pazzini. Maybe Osvaldo will get a run at the Juve defence?

Villarreal TROUNCED BATE 6-1 on aggregate whilst the Viola strrugled against Groningen. I think I make that 1-0 to Villarreal. We can only hope that they are both drawn in the same group to settle this once and for all

Re: Serie A - The 2007-08 season thread
This is good news for Toro. This issue had started impacting their performances, and now they can start focussing on the game... I expect a better performance against Sampdoria in the weekend.
Rosina Signs New Torino Contract
Alessandro Rosina has ended all speculation over his future by agreeing a new contract with Torino. The 23-year-old was reported to be having difficulties negotiating an extension and their were strong reports that European Champions Milan were lining up a bid during the January transfer window. Rosina has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal that expires in 2011 and will earn £1m a year, which is almost double his current annual salary. The ex-Parma man is seen as one of Italy’s most promising youngsters and many regard him as a certain Azzurri regular in the future.
The decision not to move to a bigger club may worry Italy Coach Roberto Donadoni, who has surprisingly not called Rosina up to any of his squads, despite the player’s stunning form over the past year or so. Last campaign Rosina was influential in helping Torino beat the drop as he scored nine Serie A goals. He started the new season in similarly imperious form with three goals in his first three games, including an absolute gem of a strike against Lazio and a screamer against Rimini in the Coppa Italia.

It sure will be a cracker of a game Gigliati. In my opinion the Viola look like serious title contenders with the way they have been playing of late.
And yes Legrotagllie has really shouldered his responsibilities well given the fact that we have so many injuries at the back.
I guess Ranieri will field this line-up against Fiorentina:
----------------------------buffon-----------------------------
birindelli------grygera------------legrotagllie-------cheillini
salihamidzic-------almiron--------tiago-------------nedved
--------------trezeguet------------------del piero-----------
