Heerenveen asked something like 17M euro for him but nobody wanted to buy him for that amount, AZ were interested, Boro were interested and Alves himself didn't want to go to Russia I thought.
Then the problems begun, Alves didn't show up at training for over a month. Then he once returned, and that left again for a too long time.
The feud finally seems settled, he made his official debut for Heerenveen this week against Feyenoord so it seems like he is back on track.
Alves and especially his agent made disgracefull comments towards Heerenveen, saying that the kept Afonso like a slave and they even said the Heerenveen board/fans were nazi's.
Hope that clears it, still a class player with loads more class than Vagner Love.
Blue, it unbelievable how you think Adriano is above a striker who scored the highest amount of goals in Europe last year.
This is what happened. What Since 1888 says is true.
Basically Afonso was missing for three weeks - NOBODY knew where he was, then they found out he was still in Brasil. And he stayed there for another couple of weeks as he refused to return. After that he agreed to return, but the incoming he flight he was on didn't have him - he even left his girlfriend waiting at the Dutch Airport!
Then he dissapeared again. And returned after another couple of weeks. During this time Afonso and his agents were spouting off absolute rubbish to force a transfer. he did join the Brazilian squad though during the last international break.
When he returned, Heerenveen more than rightfully stuck him in the reserves for just two games (I thought). He's just played his first game for the first team last week.
Afonso is still class on the pitch and miles better than Adriano or every other striker Brazil has. Only an peak on-form Ronaldo is better (like that's going to happen) - there's no discussion here.
Afonso and his agent were trying to hold the club hostage in without a doubt the most disgraceful way I ever encountered. Everything or every attempt to breach contract before this pales in comparison. The only got what they deserved. And whilst I love Afonso on the pitch, I do think he got off very lightly here.
Afonso for Heerenveen was never treated badly. He was their golden boy - they rescued him from a dead end carreer in Sweden, brilliantly made him into a striker and he was loved by everyone including outside of his club. He always behaved professinoally and then he pulls this. He didn't get to go to AZ.
Heerenveen were on the verge of taking him and his agent to the court and to the UEFA board - to get money lost. They still might. He was their investment mind you.
