    Ronaldo: I 'tortured' Roma
    By David McDonnell 02/10/2007

Cristiano Ronaldo aims to sink Roma again tonight after revealing how their players begged him to stop tormenting them during their emphatic 7-1 defeat to Manchester United.
Roma return to Old Trafford tonight for the first time since last season's humiliating quarter-final second leg loss - the second heaviest in Champions League history.
And Ronaldo, who terrorised the Italians with two goals and a hand in two others in April, revealed how one of Roma's beleaguered men pleaded with him to stop his tricks.
Ronaldo said: "When we were already winning 6-0 one of their players said 'don't do any more dribbles, you're already winning by six', almost begging.

"Obviously I won't reveal his name, as these are comments brought about by occurrences in the game.
"Other players ask me to go to play on the opposite side, and others don't show any sense of humour when they make threats to my physical integrity.
"I know that they are merely trying to scare me.
"But these comments are worthless, for I keep playing exactly the same way."
Ronaldo, who made the Roma revelations in his new book, Moments, will be singled out for special attention by Roma tonight, given the demolition job he performed last time.
Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson is facing a potential defensive crisis after he revealed Nemanja Vidic and Wes Brown did not train yesterday after suffering knocks in Saturday's 1-0 win at Birmingham.
United are already missing keeper Edwin van der Sar, who is out with a toe injury, and Fergie said: "Vidic and Brown are doubts.
"Both picked up knocks on Saturday and we're going to have to wait on them.
"That would put us under a bit of difficulty.
"Gerard Pique would come in for Vidic and John O'Shea for Wes. We'll see tomorrow.
"I'm very confident in Tomasz Kuszczak in goal.
"I'm confident he can step up to replace Edwin van der Sar.

Some of Ronaldo's comments are slightly cringe worthy, but I guess it's this unwavering self confidence (hubris?) that makes him the great player that he is.

Lets hope tonight is exactly the same as the last game Very Happy

If he really made those comments then i'm a bit dissapointed TBH. I really like him as a player but that is just too arrogant. Especially if you take into account the fact that after the much-hyped duel with Kaka' where he clearly came out second best, Kaka' didn't say anything like that and only had good things to say about him, whereas he could easily go on and say: " I proved who the better player is" and stuff like that.

P.S. Gattuso showed no mercy either Razz

Totti issues apology to United fan:

Francesco Totti has attempted to defuse the simmering tensions between the supporters of Manchester United and Roma by making a personal apology to a female United supporter who was attacked by police at last season's game in the Stadio Olimpico.

Ahead of Tuesday's meeting between the two clubs, Totti has sent 23-year-old Carly Lyes a video message expressing regret for her treatment at the hands of the Rome police. Television footgae showed her being repeatedly hit on the head by the carabinieri.

"We would like to apologise for the treatment you received in Rome last season and we hope it has not damaged the opinion you and your fellow supporters have of our city," Totti tells her in the message. "We would also like to invite you to the Olympic Stadium for the game later this year and treat you as our special guest."

Lyes is one of four United fans pursuing a legal case against the Italian police.

"I was presented with a replacement camera at Old Trafford last week and it contained a video message," she said. "It's a nice touch and let's hope it signals a more peaceful atmosphere when we play Roma twice in the next few months. Sadly, however, I have still not had an apology from the Italian police."

At least 11 United fans were stabbed in clashes with Roma's Ultras before and after last season's quarter-final in Rome and there were revenge attacks when the Italians came to Old Trafford. The two clubs meet again in Manchester tomorrow night and police are treating the encounter as a high-risk fixture.

Yep exactly that. Ronaldo has a book coming out very soon, and i see no harm in putting that stuff in it. But of course if it is realeased prior to a match like this it looks bad.

Well I didnt want to say my true thoughts; that he is an idiot, who should really shut the f@ck up Biggrin

Roma before these comments were probably (definitely?) more motivated for this game, than any game they have ever played in their lives. Ronaldo has just gone and added kerosene to the fire. I can see this game exploding and Ronaldo getting the brunt of the bad fouls.

Anyway I am hoping he didnt actually say afore mentioned comments.

All top players need to be extremely confident/arrogant, especially young players. I dont agree with what he has said, I was just stating that the same self confidence that results in him making such churlish statements, is what made him move to one of the biggest clubs in the world at the age of 18 and not be phazed by having to replace the most famous football player - at the time - in the world.

Totti is a c**t for numerous - well documented - reasons. He always slates English football, gives it the 'big un' and then chokes against them.

The double standards on this MB when it comes to some players like Totti are ridiculous.

When Totti says that he doesn't rate english football, he is a c**t... but when ronaldo says that roma players begged him to stop, he has "unwavering self confidence". Both are equally arrogant statements in my eyes.

I can draw similar analogies between the Totti spitting incident and Zidane's headbutt, both were in bad taste and unsporting... but Totti is a c**t, while Matrix was at fault for getting headbutted... of course, Poulsen must have been an angel Doh

When Totti says that he doesn't rate english football, he is a c**t... but when ronaldo says that roma players begged him to stop, he has "unwavering self confident".

It's a conspiracy against Italians. Smiley
