AMSTERDAM, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Brazilian Afonso Alves hit a Dutch first division record seven goals for Heerenveen in their 9-0 thrashing of Heracles Almelo on Sunday.
Feyenoord moved top with a 1-0 victory at Vitesse Arnhem and Siem de Jong scored in injury time for Ajax Amsterdam to salvage a point in a 2-2 draw at Sparta Rotterdam.
Alves scored a hat-trick between the 10th and 18th minutes to stun Heerenveen's opponents. On the hour Gerald Sibon made it 4-0 followed by four more Alves goals in nine minutes. Sibon added his second to complete the rout.
It was the first time in the Dutch first division (eredivisie) that a player had scored seven goals.
In the 1955-1956 season, just after Dutch football turned professional, Henk Schouten scored nine for Feyenoord in an 11-4 win over Volewijckers Amsterdam.
But in the eredivisie, which started in 1956, four players registered six goals: Dick Lammers and Pierre Kerkhofs in the late 1950s, Johan Cruyff in 1970 and Marco van Basten, now Netherlands coach, in 1985.
At Arnhem, Feyenoord's Nicky Hofs broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half when he hit the net following a defence-splitting pass from Roy Makaay.
In Rotterdam Charles Dissels handed Sparta the lead soon after the interval but midway through the second half Klaas Huntelaar volleyed home the equaliser at the near post.
Sparta defender Sepp de Roover restored the lead for the hosts when he outplayed John Heitinga and found the net with a long drive but, in time added on, 18-year-old De Jong levelled the match.
Feyenoord are top with 18 points after seven matches, one more then Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, who beat Willem II Tilburg 3-0 on Saturday.
Davy de Fauw struck after 70 minutes to inspire Roda JC Kerkrade to a 1-0 win at Twente Enschede.
Ondrej Svejdik struck three minutes into injury time to salvage a point for Groningen, who came from behind twice at AZ Alkmaar.
Brazilian Ari opened the scoring after 16 minutes and Marcus Berg equalised with 19 minutes remaining though Demy de Zeeuw converted a rebound to restore lead.
Alkmaar slipped to 12th with eight points, while Groningen are seventh with 11.
