i think they should resort to using wingers like they did in 2004 where spain actually played well and there was balance in the team. one of their problems is they have too many of the same type xavi/cesc/inesta/guti and they end up using more then they need. imo they should only use one and it should be either cesc/xavi.and morientes needs to play because when they play with one striker those midfielders never support the lone striker well enough. also baraja is needed imo or someone like him, box to box.

    my team:
    ------------casillas-----------

    ramos---abiol----puyol----capdevilla

    joaquin----xavi/cesc--baraja/garcia---silva/vicente(when fit)

    -------villa-----morientes-------

I agree, chucking all these CM's in doesn't work (Xabi Alonso is injured otherwise he would have probably started over Cesc), and today the two missing strikers also made a difference. Joaquin has been indifferent again this season, he needs to pick up his game before Euro 2008.

But I can't believe you left out Iniesta and put Baraja there, he's well past it. Shouldn't even be in the final 23. Iniesta must start from now on, and if there are to be 2 wingers, then the 4th midfielder should be Albelda or Raul Garcia as the DM.
i think inesta is very good and has shown great form but just dont trust him in a 4-4-2 as a CM because when you meet those big teams like france they are too good defensive and will outmuscle you.it was a choice between xavi/inesta and i think xavi performs the deeplying playmaker role better then inesta. also i choose baraja not because i like him or anything but because i think they need a box to box player and only him and raul garcia fit the bill.

I really disliked the 4-1-4-1 formation we played today. I'd like to see a 4-3-2-1 with Casillas; Ramos, Albiol, Puyol, Capdevila; Albelda, Xavi; Joaquin, Iniesta/Silva, Riera, Silva; Villa

Albiol was poor today. I reckon it's because he plays with Marchena - how he gets in the team I don't know, when he plays alongside a more experienced centre-back (Helguera, Ayala) he plays well. The only players who I thought played well were Iniesta and Tamudo.

Just saw highlights of Portugal's match. Ronaldo was on fire, got a few bad tackles and an elbow for his troubles though. Nani is wasteful but looked ok when he came on. Quaresma wasnt doing so much when he was on it seemed. Should have been about 0-5 but Portugal look good.

Great play from Scotland, Frnace and Italy. All of them will win their next games for sure. So it looks like the scots will go into the final game leading Italy with 1 point, and France by 2 points. So the games that will decide the GROUP OF DEATH will be on the final day:

    Scotland vs Italy
    Ukraine vs France

If the scots lose to Italy and don't qualify, it will be harsh... they have been madnificient in a tough tough group... any othe group, and they would have easily qualified.

Eventually France has to win thier last 2 matches (home to Lithuania & away to Ukraine).

Next Month Scotland will colide with Italy. So one of them or maybe both will drop points.

I watched the Bulgaria v Luxembourg game, and Luxembourg did not look too bad for a "minnow".Their trainer has them organised and playing with spirit, and apart from a dodgy offside plan which Berbatov and co. exploited a few times, they made it tough for Bulgaria for long periods.Looks like they got their reward yesterday.

It's not possible to even suggest who'll go through IMO.

France host Lithuania in their next game (expected 3 points, even though Lithuania could possibly nick a draw, as they don't have many problems scoring)...but then have to travel to Ukraine, which is a very hard game.

Italy are at home to Faroe Islands on their last game (3 points guarenteed tbh) but have to travel to Scotland (a possible decider). Scotland have to travel to Georgia also...which isn't as easy as it sounds.

So for me...it's going to go down to the very final game.

    At the moment it's:

    1)Scotland-24
    2)Italia-23
    3)France-22

If we say Scotland get 1 point against Georgia, France beat Lithuania and Italia beat Faroe Islands. That'll be

    1)Italia-26
    2)France-25
3)Scotland-25 (France have a better GD)

That would leave Scotland vs Italia and Ukraine vs France. Any of them could go either way. I agree with you though...I think France will miss out, although I am very nervous about when Italia travel to Scotland.

Dont think it goes on GD, its on head to head so Scotland will be above France.

If Scotland beat Georgia then i think they are through although not officially as they will still need a point against Italy but as i said, cant see France winning in Ukraine.

it partly depends on how much ukraine care. sure, there's pride at stake, but they can't qualify now and they could just treat it as a friendly to try out some different players. i think it'll be the loser of scotland-italy who misses out.

i fear for italy, in that a draw will be enough for scotland (assuming they beat georgia) and in front of a passionate home crowd they could well get one.

Ahh right head to head. Ukraine are not that brilliant though. France could go there and win. If Scotland beat Georgia and go on 27...France win both theirs and go on 28...Italia beat Faroe Islands and go on 26. That would mean we'd need a win in Scotland as our head to head with France would give France the advantage.

If Italia have to WIN in Scotland...I have to say I think Donadoni will be out of a job ok

So basically you were right in saying it will go down to the last day.

Its a good thing the England match is on early on wednesday so i can watch the Scotland match later on.

They've never been in this situation before with these set of players. Can they handle the pressure? We shall see

Its a good thing the England match is on early on wednesday so i can watch the Scotland match later on.

They've never been in this situation before with these set of players. Can they handle the pressure? We shall see

I have to say I think they'll feel more pressure against Georgia than against Italia. It's a strange situation that way as losing to Italia would mean they'll be out if France win theirs...but they know that if they f@ck up against Georgia, Italia would only need a draw against them and then that game will put Scotland under even more pressure.

It's the most interesting qualifying campaign I've seen for a while anyway...Scotland deserve credit as you say...
