It's may appear as hypocrisy on the surface if someone like gerrard has dived about a grand total of 5 times throughout his career and comes out against diving but he is still essentially correct as even torres admitted

the most frustrating thing about playing a team from spain or portugal in europe is that you cannot even touch them without them falling over. Now as a liverpool fan I can admit we have one player who does this constantly in kuyt but it just seems like it is far far worse in spain and in fact sickens you when watching certain games. It's more to do with the degree of diving abroad which is at a far far greater level than in the prem

Diving and going down easily are two different things. In Spain if a player is out-muscled off the ball he will go down, whereas in England - due to the physical nature of the game - will try to stay up. The idea that diving or 'piscinazos' aren't condemned is BS.
