Taking on from my earlier thread on the current best coach in the world, I now list the nominees - the coaches who got at least 1 vote....

So who is the best among these?

I think Parks is wondering why a certain Scottish manager isn't listed. Did no one vote for him last time?

I guess no one voted for him. I had a constraint in the last vote that you cannot vote for the current manager of your club.... otherwise the vote usually resembles a "Who is the current coach of your club"!! Doh

I am also surprised no one voted for SAF, Otto Rehhagel or Carlos Alberto Parreira! And some names here are surpising, like Ancelotti - I just don't rate him. And I rate Prandelli over Spalletti. But I guess people think differently.

S4P mentioned 4 coaches (ie 0.25 votes each), I only listed coaches who got at 1 full vote.

Dude, don't take this personally... so Fergie is not in one vote, whats the big fucking deal?? There are other very deserving coaches who did not get 1 full vote... $h!t happens sometimes, deal with it!

Sorry for being baffled that a legendary coach who's managing one of the best teams in Europe superbly, can't even get into a top 9 managers. Especially when Wenger and Spalletti do. Erm

The are NOT a list of top 9 managers... they are the list of managers who someone rates as the best in the world. Big difference, if you know what I mean.

Well you can't compare them actually. If you take van Gaal...perfect coach, able to actually teach footballers anything.

But Hiddink is a much better manager, knows how to prepare the players mentally for a game.

Whereas any slight against United and you are chasing down the perpetrator. Don't mean it in a nasty way but it is difficult to indulge in some healthy Manc hate on any thread on the board without you sticking your oar in! Wink

There does seem to exist this belief that if they're Italian then by God they must be a good manager. Everyone must be a-having a-Dolmio day.

I dont see the point of this list personally if someone like Spalletti is in there and Ferguson- and yes, just for you Allez old chap, the scarf wearing Lord Lowe- are not in there.

I'll give Spaggetti my vote for having a remarkable bald pate and carrying on the legacy left by everyone's favourit alien referee Luigi Collina. But for managerial skills, he's still got a long way to go.

Fair enough, if you want a comprehensive, serious list of the world's highest-achieving coaches then of course Fergie would have to be in there. I get the impression that this list is maybe looking at something a bit more subtle/intangible, in terms of looking for coaches who are particularly tactically interesting, or have a very characteristic and successful personal style (e.g. the interesting Roma formation with no central striker).

Which can look a wee bit poncy, I can see that...

He's a very good coach though...has a unique formation, to which he uses fantastically well. An on form Roma are near to unstoppable. He's finally installed a bit of consistency in them IMO...and has made sure disruptive influences at the club don't stay there. I can understand why you are unhappy that Ferguson isn't there (as he should be)...but Spalletti is a fair shout.

Good lord, you guys are nuts!!! I have already explained many times why Fergie is not here... NO ONE FUCKING VOTED FOR HIM!!

Like I said, I don't rate Ancellotti at all, he won't make my top 15 coaches currently. THIS IS NOT MY FUCKING LIST. Everyone had a chance to vote on their top coach. Do I think Fergie is the best coach in the world? No. Nor did anyone who voted. SO DEAL WITH IT!!

If you want to analyse, perhaps such a vote usually results in unique coaches getting ahead of ones who are perhaps better than them. Spalletti and Wenger are the kind of coaches some people would rate over anyone else, coz of their style. Even if you look at the current vote, Spalletti has got a vote and Lippi none (which is shocking)... does not mean Spalletti > Lippi, just that Spalletti's unique style makes him stand out for some people.

No need to start an angry rant. I made the same point about certain coaches being particularly highly regarded because of the style they foster, e.g. Wenger indisputably transforming English football, but given that here is a list that purports to be about the "best" coaches in the world, whether or not you take any personal responsibility for it, you can only expect that some will scoff at the omissions.
