Post by Tweesus Mon Oct 29, 2007 2:22 pm

Well, its a well known fact that after ten games you start to get an impression of how teams are going to do for the season.

In the EPL now, all teams have played ten games, and most other leagues have either reached, or are coming up to ten games, so its time to answer these questions.

What teams have done a lot better than you expected?

What teams have done a lot worse?

Who have been the best players in the league? (you can produce an XI if you wish)

What players have done a lot better than you have expected?

What players have done a lot worse?

Has the quality of the league improved or regressed on last season?

What teams have done a lot better than you expected?

Arsenal - I thought we'd be battling it out with Spurs and Liverpool for the 3rd and 4th CL spots. Thought we'd have a few 'dodgy' results early in the season as well. The type we usually drew or lost last season

Man City - thought they'd do well, but not anywhere near as well as they have.

Blackburn/Pompey - Thought both would be around and about the UEFA spots but its more the style of the football that they have produced that I've been impressed with

Reading - thought they'd get relegated this season, but they've actually not done too badly

What teams have done a lot worse?

Spurs, for obvious reasons. The same with Chelsea, although they're improving. After spending so much in the summer, I also expected better from Fulham. Always though Bolton would struggle this season, so I'm not as surprised by their demise

Who have been the best players in the league? (you can produce an XI if you wish)

    Keepers: Schmeichal and Reina
Defenders: Richards, Vidic, Touré, Rozenhal, Samba
Midfielders: Cesc, Ronaldo, Scholes, and surprisingly, Lampard has been very good of late, AND not scoring!

What players have done a lot better than you have expected?

Lampard - some of his passing has been top class.
Heskey - A different player this season
N'Zogbia - Has stepped up his game and is beginning to realise his potential
    Others: Santa Cruz, Nani, Carson

What players have done a lot worse?

    Berbatov, Babel, Robinson, Nolan, Geremi

Has the quality of the league improved or regressed on last season?

Certainly. Think that the general quality of the teams lower down in the league (ie non top four) has improved massively - teams like Blackburn, Man City, West Ham, Aston Villa, Everton and Portsmouth.

Also think that the BIG 4 will be far better teams overall this season, than they were last season and I am confident that we'll see another EPL team in the CL final, for the fourth season running!

What teams have done a lot better than you expected?

Arsenal and Man City have surprised me.

What teams have done a lot worse?

    Spurs

Who have been the best players in the league?

Fabregas, Elano, Man Utd's forward players as a collective have looked good recently, Anelka (focusing mostly on attacking players)

What players have done a lot better than you have expected?

Hleb and Sagna have impressed for us, Benjani, Heskey, Jones

What players have done a lot worse?

    Berbatov, the Spurs defence.

Has the quality of the league improved or regressed on last season?

I think it has improved. Most of the mid-table sides now have competitive squads and look stronger than they did last season. There are a couple of weak teams in the league still.

What teams have done a lot better than you expected?

Almeria, Murcia, Racing, and Villarreal (thought they'd be in trouble without Forlan but they have proven otherwise)

What teams have done a lot worse?

Zaragoza and Betis (thought they'd at least aim for mediocrity given it's their centenary year but they aren't even that)

Who have been the best players in the league? (you can produce an XI if you wish)

kas' list is pretty good...maybe add Rossi (Villarreal), Dani Guiza (Mallorca), and Jorge Lopez (Racing)

What players have done a lot better than you have expected?

Kanoute (I thought there might be a drop off this year but he's still scoring regularly), Oliveira (never rated him but is having a very nice season considering Zaragoza's problems).

What players have done a lot worse?

Robinho has had two pretty good games in a row now but he is still nowhere near the player I was expecting this season after the departure of Capello and his performances in Copa America. Also I thought Simao would be better.

Has the quality of the league improved or regressed on last season?

Improved I'd say. I think there are 6-8 really good teams with a chance to finish in the top 4. Three of four teams are well placed to advance to the next phase of the CL and minus Zaragoza, the Spanish teams in the UEFA Cup have been started well.

What teams have done a lot worse? zaragoza have been too inconsistant, at the start i'd be surprised by seville position now but after wednesday think they'll start to turn it around, madrid whilst top have disappointed me, getafe

Hitherto it has improved as mid table teams have a lot better players and play better football than they did in the past.

Fabregas is on his own level right now, just give him player of the month for October as well as the PFA POTY and YPOTY and football writers POTY. Elano's been good for a shout prior to the diplomatic incident at Man City.

Has the quality of the league improved or regressed on last season?

Depends on what you mean by quality. To me depth of a league is quality as well as play I suppose i'm not seeing evidence that the status quo hasn't changed in both counts.

Benjani, Keane, Adebayor, Hleb. The red "4 goals a match" Predator

I'd also add Cazorla & Sobis who have have impressed this season.

Didn't think Mark Gonzalez would change Betis' fortunes much, he's a one-trick pony.

Simao has been disappointing, but as I've said before; I always thought he was overrated.

Who have been the best players in the league? (you can produce an XI if you wish)

    Fabregas
    Hleb
Arteta - deserves a better team than Everton

What players have done a lot better than you have expected?

    Roque Santa Cruz
    John Utaka
    Bacary Sagna
Torres (to an extent. I thought he could be a big flop to rival Shevchenko but he has done OK. Sort of.)
    Elano

What players have done a lot worse?

    Berbatov
    Darren Bent
    Malouda

Has the quality of the league improved or regressed on last season?

Improved definitely. Arsenal are playing the beautiful game, and ManU in their fashion are awe inspiring. Even Chelsea, liberated from Mourinho's dead hand, are scoring for fun.

I do the FA Barclay English Premier League :

What teams have done a lot better than you expected?

Arsenal , Man City , Blackburn , Pompey

What teams have done a lot worse?

Spurs , Bolton , Chelsea (but they're coming back)

Who have been the best players in the league? (you can produce an XI if you wish)

    van der Sar

    Richards , Rio , Vidic , Evra

    Ronaldo , Fabregas , Elano , Hleb

    Benjani , Adebayor

after missing much of the start of the season Rooney is coming back strong.

What players have done a lot better than you have expected?

    Hleb , Nani , Benjani , Flamini , Anderson

What players have done a lot worse?

Gerrard (c'mon 2 goals is not good enough) , Berbatov

Has the quality of the league improved or regressed on last season?

Some teams are still playing negative football (a absolute disgrace) whilst other teams actually want to play sexy Football

Okay you can say i have left some notable absentees , i never knew much of the Man City signings apart from Elano , he has gone past any expectations i had of him.

From a Man United perspective Nani and Anderson in particular i never expected to play much early on and because of injuries/suspensions to key players they have and settled in well and giving good performances. Two Arsenal players i have mentioned may not hat the *star appeal* of Fabregas but have been as influential. Flamini last year was some sort of Enigma i was led to believe he was going to leave the club but he has stayed and forged a great partnership with Fabregas. Hleb was hit and miss but is looking the player Wenger wants him to be.

btw why is Taylor not playing for Newcastle these days , Rozehnal has impressed aswell.

I was talking about the number of Man U players in your team of the season. Whistle

Taylor isn't playing because, in Sams words, he was "crap" against City, same goes for Rozehnal who wasn't even that bad IMO. That rule only applies to certain players though, not his favs. Rolling Eyes

    @ Kimbo

Ah , my bad .. van der Sar has kept the most cleansheets .. all-right i know what your thinking with the likes of Vidic + Rio hes hardly going concede bucket-loads if not him Friedel or Cech. Rio + Vidic both merit their inclusion (or maybe take Vidic out and include Toure who IMO has been as good) as Evra. Ronaldo may have missed 3 games but hes better than the next RW , SWP had a good start to the season but Grant has restricted his playing time.

Taylor should return. He should be captain IMO.

Since the E.P.L has been covered well, I'll do France.

What teams have done a lot better than you expected?

    Bordeaux Nancy

What teams have done a lot worse?

    Marseille, P.S.G, Monaco

Who have been the best players in the league? (you can produce an XI if you wish)

Benzema, Benarfa, Bellion, Melo, Kim, Toutalan

What players have done a lot better than you have expected?

Bellion, Diarra, Wiltord, Marseille goal keeper Miranda

What players have done a lot worse?

Cavenaghi, Nasri (mainly because he has been injured most of the time), Menez, Koller, Zenden, Cisse, Juninho, Galardo, Gouffran, and all other Marseille players.

Has the quality of the league improved or regressed on last season?

Regressed as usual, teams that were supposed to be in the relegation zone are competing for a champions league spot. lol
