Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
Lampard in the team after his recent good form is still a change. As is giving Lescott another go at CB, Bridge at LB, and Carson in goal.
Barry should definitely be back for the Croatia game if England still have a chance. Otherwise Mclaren deserves criticism.

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
This could possibly well be McClowns penultimate game as England coach so for laughs he pairs Gerrard + Lampard (to be fair Lampard does deserve his recall and Gerrard is the captain so he cant be dropped..) together against a team which has no confidence from their fans and ranked around 85, he has absolutely nothing to lose. But against Croatia who knows what the midfield would be like will he bring back Barry ..

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
The point about Austria's poorness is a good one - if England win comfortably tomorrow, Mclaren will interpret it to mean that the "Fantastic 4" is the right lineup, rather than the opposition was poor. Then it could be dangerous when the Croatia game comes around.

I don't mind Lampard being a given a go, but not in Barrys place. Take out Gerrard ffs.

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
David Beckham will return to the England side.
Central midfielder Frank Lampard is to replace Gareth Barry (i.e.a Lampard-Gerrard combination)
Joleon Lescott will play at centre-back.
--------------------------------------------------------
Seems that McLaren wants to go out as a laughing stock.

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
McClaren's comments that he's made that are in the papers today are laughable!
Basically he's said that Lampard's return to form means he has to start and thats just tough for Barry
IF Lampard HAS to start, then drop Gerrard, you retarded northern fuckface

they are fooked then how many times are these idiotic managers going to try Flump and Gerrard knowing it doesn't work. Don't even have to drop gerrard just play him RM

It's actually not a bad team but the problem is you know exactly how they are going to play so any opposition coach will find it easy to create a gameplan to make england look as average as usual
It is going to be a joy watching beckham, gerrard and flump all seeing who can hoof it up to crouch the most

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
True. That's an option. If we do play Gerrard on the right though, there's a risk we'll go too narrow with Cole on the left.
Austria are $h!t, so we'll beat them and McClaren will hail Lampard-Gerrard as a dream partnership and then use it v Croatia

No ball retention whatsoever. I'm almost tempted to say that we should drop Gerrard (and Beckham). and play Barry with Flumps in front of him.
Anythings better than a Flum-Gerr partnership

you think barry and flump = ball retention ??
that would be the most uninspiring, slow, turgid partnership england have ever put out and with flump and gerrard around that is quite an achievement
Gerrard has also been in great for the past few weeks and is the current captain so there is no point even talking about dropping him

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
Ok, Lampard isn't as good a player Gerrard by any stretch of the imagination, but he does retain the ball better than Gerrard does.
Barry of course could retain the ball better on his own than the both of them together.
I think Gerrard's been coasting for England recently anyhow so maybe a drop to the bench would make him sit up a bit.

I'm surprised he isn't giving Young a game.
Don't know what Kas was on about re experimenting.
If I truly wanted to experiment, I'd start Bentley and Young.

he's in no position to experiment, the team need confidence after Russia, and in fairness as he's doing, he needs to assume that the Croatia game is meaningful. If it transpires that it isn't I would experiment then.

Beckham -- Gerrard -- Lampard -- J Cole
If ever a midfield could be less than the sum of their parts, this is the one.
You just know we'll win 3-0 and everyone will thinks its hunky dory.

So the squad he's playing tonight is probably the squad he's wanting to play of Wednesday?
I hope he's publicly hanged on Wednesday night if so.

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
only with the possible exception of Barry (or Hargreaves if fit) i really believe so and i'm not 100% convinced by that change.
there is no point playing becks tonight if he doesn't want to play him on wednesday, and the others generally pick themselves.
the only other potential change is CB where if lescott has a nightmare he may play richards with pip at RB.
he'll defo change back to Robbo too. but thats it imho.
He sees this team as his strongest XI imho. I could see the argument that he'd grown into the job until this latest selection, ffs its going backwards.

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
and so do the players, regardless of the manager, if they are as good as the press and media seem to think the individual players are, they should have still qualified from this group, although i'm far from convinced that they are as good as people seem to think.Tweedle wrote:Honestly, if Russia beat Isreal tomorrow, then McClaren deserves everything he gets on Wednesday. Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
I still think management is incredibly important though - just look at the transformation of Chelsea. Also, would the players that Wenger has play the same without him there? Maybe for a bit, but it would fade over time.
McClaren's fucked up several times in qualifying - the Macedonia games in particular where he opted to play a game based upon hoofing the ball up to our strikers where if we'd used pacy wingers, we'd have absoluately raped their full backs.
Then the Russia away game, we were playing dreadfully, a half decent coach would have change things, but he stuck it out until we were 2-1 down.
The guys an imbecile! and finally we have a midfielder that actually looks half decent at retaining the ball and defending within his system and he drops him!
FUCKTARD

Re: England squad for Austria and Croatia
don't get me wrong i'm not saying Mcclaren should get stick but the players are culpable too. although i totally agree that if he plays flump and garrard in a muct win game and loses fook he should be a goner. its back to the sven prob name over form/performance
