Hicks blasts Rafa Empty Hicks blasts Rafa

Post by Parks lives Fri Nov 23, 2007 2:19 pm

Tom Hicks has responded to Rafa's press conference by telling him to stop talking about new players, and concentrate on the ones he has at his disposal.

Benitez clearly isnt happy with Hicks and Gillett, and it seems Hicks is not happy with Benitez either. “After the Champions League final in Athens, Rafa made certain demands of us and we responded to those demands in the summer.” Said Hicks.

“We brought in some good players and spent more money than has ever been spent before at this club. We now have some crucial games coming up in the Premier League and the Champions League and we want to see if we can win these games with the players we have.”

“This was the message we gave to Rafa recently and I think during the international break he must have grown a bit frustrated about this. We told him to concentrate on the games coming up and nothing else and I guess he didn’t like that.”

“But, for the time being, we just need to be focused on what happens on the pitch. George and I will be over in mid-December and that is the time to talk about other issues. It is really time for Rafa to quit talking about new players and to coach the players we have.”

No. But then they didn't do an interview where they basically bragged about how much money they had to spend on players. These as good as sat there with a bunch of dollars dangling from their cocks, it was vulger and classless. Them going public with this only confirms my view about them. ok

I also don't appreicate the carrot being waved in our face, to then be slapped about with a stick.

But in fairness they have a point, we spent considerable amounts in the summer, if Rafa hasn't purchased wisely then that really is his problem factor into this the upcoming Mascherano deal and you can add 17mil onto our yearly accounts.

We do need investment, we do need to get some quality wingers, another centre back and arguably another striker of real quality.

The question the yanks might be asking is, will Rafa invest wisely.

Or will he piss it down the pan like so many of his attacking signings over the last 3 years.

They are right to be cautious, what lets them down is that they are not men of football, and will not be able to judge for themselves if a player is being bought at a reasonable price, and whether they believe the player is of the level required.

(i wouldn't have even contemplated buying players like Bellamy and Pennant, i would rather of thrown £15million at Simao at the time.)

Surely Hicks and Gillett, like the Glazers and like Roman, surround themselves with people who know about football.

I don't think they just trust the manager to buy whoever he wants.

Well when Liverpool got these guys, every fan was very happy and seemed to think they were more like abram then the glazers.

But these are no different from the glazers except they don't shut up, they just continue to tell Liverpool fans what they wanted to hear. But The Glazers don't interfere infact they do nothing at all for the most part, and this debt problem hasnt effected anything viewable.

But now these owners of Liverpool are borrowing money to pay for the new stadium, they were supposed to increase a lot of money for the transfers....however on net money spent it's really not been that much, not much more than in previous years at all. Rafa could have spent what he had better, but thats largely irrelevent. With him and Gerrard not best of friends, for the fans it becomes the owners and Gerrard v Benitez, i think they will side with the owners.

He's good in cup competions, so get rafa in charge of England Biggrin

Yes Rick Parry is that man, who played a huge part in bring Rafa to the team, and will back him as he has done since day one, so ultimately it is Rafas decision.

To show you have trust and fully think your man is right, there is no reason to interfere. But these guys want to interfere, they want to be at big matches, they want the spotlight. They want the fans to like them over rafa, they are releasing statements that serve no purpose but to again make the fans side with them in any upcoming event that may well soon arise. Surround yourself with people who are all talk, and you soon figure that out about anybody else Biggrin <Ale>

Rafa has done well in his time at Liverpool I think. But the league still seems a pipeline dream, although they're still in the race this season.

They're style of football doesn't win many fans though. If I was a Liverpool fan and was sure I was going to lose Rafa, I'd be desperate beyond belief in the hope that we'd get Van Gaal in as manager.

    IMO, he's the man Ale

How convenient that you pick up on a single fleeing similarity and use it to state that it will "defo" end up the sme as Mourinho vs Abramovich. For a start the personalities of Rafa and Jose are poles apart, the writing was on the wall for Mourinho before he started complaining about the lack of money for transfers - as is obvious in the glut of mediocre Bosmans he was forced to obtain.

    Must try harder Frank.

Van Gaal has said he'd love to manage in the EPL.

Imo he'd be a great move - the Americans are sure to want 'entertaining football' and Liverpool did in the past have a reputation for playing some entertaining stuff.

Brilliant at nurturing young talent and he's a fan of Beautiful football. Perfect. ok
