Absolutely ridiculous. I don't know what he was expected to achieve with such a poor squad. He has paid the price for hugely overachieving last season.

Re: Billy Davies has left Derby
Did he walk out or did they sack him? If its the latter then its really disgraceful. Derby should never really have qualified. They were a mid-table championship side that overachieved hugely.

Re: Billy Davies has left Derby
Derby manager Billy Davies has left the Premier League strugglers following talks with chairman Adam Pearson.
The club are two points adrift at the foot of the table following a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea on Saturday.
"We have decided mutually in the best interest of both parties that to go our separate ways is the correct decision at this time," said Pearson.
Derby have just one win so far this season, which came against Newcastle, and have shipped in 33 goals.
The side have struggled to come to terms with the top-flight after Davies steered them to promotion via the play-offs from the Champiosnhip last season.
"Billy Davies leaves Derby County with our best wishes and our genuine gratitude in achieving a magnificent promotion to the Premier League, where everyone connected with the club wanted to be," added Pearson.
"We wish Billy all the best for his future career and both parties will now move forward, which I am sure will lead to future success for Billy Davies and Derby County."

He should go back to a Championship squad with a bit more money. Still decent manager.

Re: Billy Davies has left Derby
I'll never understand clubs that do this. He was good enough to take an underdog championship squad out of the play-offs (just). He gets next-to-no money to buy players. They were always going to get relegated, but next year they would have had parachute money. Hence they could have started to build something better.
Peter Reid to Derby.

Re: Billy Davies has left Derby
I suppose they had to get rid of him now so that they could lure a new manager with the promise of money for the January transfer window. The timing isn't great from the market perspective though, with quite a few jobs going at the mo (Ireland, Birmingham, England, even, and potentially Newcastle and Liverpool) and they'll find it difficult to get anyone decent.

Re: Billy Davies has left Derby
Stupid move to sack him the guy has worked wonders at that club and has been shown no loyalty. He should have been kept in until after January when he has the chance to buy.

Re: Billy Davies has left Derby
Disgusting. The guy was too good for Derby when he went there, got promoted 1 year into a 5 year plan. EVERYONE knew they would struggle with a small squad of mediocre Championship players and raw youngsters. I'm so disappointed and feel sorry for the fans. The board however deserve everything they get if they take on McClaren, who would probably jump at the chance of a no lose situation and some silly Premiership money.

Re: Billy Davies has left Derby
i hope Derby crash and burn and don't win another game all season now. This stinks. What did they expect? Challenging for Europe?!

They should have sacked him in the summer if this was over personal issues, a waste of time waiting this long.

Wonderful to see.
I don't mind hardball tactics, but in the play-off semi at home they set out purposefully to injure Bale, obviously on Davies instructions.
