Simon Davies moves to Fulham Empty Simon Davies moves to Fulham

Post by Cesc Wed Jan 24, 2007 2:09 pm

Simon Davies has joined Fulham from Everton for an undisclosed fee. The Welsh international midfielder, 27, was deemed surplus to requirements at Goodison Park and is keen to get started on a deal that runs until 2010.

"The style of play that manager Chris Coleman has developed here will suit my game," he told the club's website.

Davies joined Everton from Tottenham for £3.5m in May 2005 and has made 53 appearances, scoring a solitary goal in a spell hindered by injuries.

"I'm really happy to have joined Fulham as Chris is a manager I know and admire very much," added Davies.

"I've wanted to come back to London for a while now so it's a good move for me, and I'm eager to train hard and contribute as much as I can to the rest of the season's campaign."

"Simon will fit in really well here, is a player I have admired for a long time and obviously I know him well because of the Welsh national team," he said. He is a versatile player; he can play centre midfield, wide right and right-back, so we have the option of utilising him in a number of positions."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have to admit I am fairly surprised by this move. I thought he was doing well at Everton and moving to Fulham would be a step down for him.

But fair play to Fulham they have got a good player that can help the club push on. Montella and Davies look inspired signings by Coleman already.

Remember when Davies was at Spurs, he was being lined up with a Man Utd move as a replacement for Giggs. Yikes

    Chris Coleman = Genius.

Best manager outside of the top 6.

Every year they end up losing their best players and he replaces them and they end up snug in mid-table.

Coleman is probably my favourite manager in the Premiership, aside from Wenger obviously!!

He works on a real tight budget each season yet still continues to produce a formidable Premiership side.

Niemi, Helguson, Brown and even McBride have all been good signings for them in the recent years. He rarely signs a flop.

Fulham really are the smallest club in the Premiership when it comes to column inches. I can't actually remember the last time they ever had any hype about there form and only then was it about the chance they'd be dragged into the relegation battle which they never have.

^ But I thought they had that London-biased media behind them? Wink

Davies is still a very talented player, but he looks like a direct replacement for Bullard whilst he recuperates. With us, he was a very exciting player, and took that form to the Welsh national team as well. He had quite a few injuries though, and was one of the 1st out of the door when we re-vamped our structure.

he wanted to leave you to improve himself and go onto bigger things.

he's now ended up at Fulham...great ideas from Simple Simon ok

Not really Deano - when we first gave him a go after getting him from Peterborough, he was really promising... but he got a couple of really bad injuries which slowed him down. After the influx of new players in 2004, I guess he wanted to go somewhere where he could get regular football. Can't blame him for that. Never been the same player since.

    @ Controversy

It was aimed at Kimbo, because no-one pays any attention to clubs North of Watford okDoh

I think Puro's half-right though, even if he exaggerates. The treatment of Heskey & David James for example.

It's pretty much true that they dont though, you have to do something special up here to get any praise off the media. Doesn't mean they give attention to all london clubs though.

Just certain things. Like it was All Heskey's fault that we lost to France in Euro 2004, never mind Gerrard's backpass.

Heskey not good enough? It's not like the team did any better when he got dropped, is it? Was the Perfect Foil for Owen, whose strike-rate has surely gone down since. Great Performances on the Road in the qualifiers for World Cup 2002 as well.

As for James - just look how lightly Robinson has got off for missing several crosses in the WC, and being general turd this season. The Press reaction if it had been James in goal for the 2nd Croatia goal doesn't bear thinking about.

Rio? They literally buried him alive last year. Several papers were writing a footballing obiturary for the man after the 4-1 loss at Middlebrough. Meanwhile Theresa the Big Blue Double Decker Bus gets away with mediocre Intl. performances time & again.

In reference to Cole... he's still got a lot of sympathy beacause he was abused in Spain. You should notice that the most right-wing, borderline-racist papers in this country are always the 1st to denounce racism (Sun, Express, Mail), so they can have a clean consience.

TS - good examples but IMO they demonstrate press favouritism rather than racism. Heskey was great for a season and has been going downhill ever since. Wigan is the right level for him. Owen's strike rate has declined because Owen has got worse. Owen getting picked over Defoe is more realistic an example of racism but tbh I think this was down to Sven being an idiot rather than a bigot.

James - well he has deserved the stick at times. Likewise he's no worse than the other England options on current form.

Rio - OK he's come in for criticism. But no-one's suggested that he should be dropped for Carragher have they? Again, if anyone's got a beef it'd be Ledley, again I'd blame Sven rather than institutional racism.

    Maybe I'm naive.
