I differ a little with Kimbo here, in that I think Lua Lua could have done a job for us even whilst we were in the top four. Shearer and Bellamy was our first choice partnership, and for the connection they had and for Bellamys pace that was a very strong partnership. I actually think, in terms of talent, Lua Lua has more than Bellamy - both lack finishing prowess, Bellamy makes the better runs, but Lua Lua is more skillful and creative on the ball and hes very difficult to handle at his best. As I say, he didnt link as well with Shearer, and so Shearer/Bellamy was our best partnership. But Bellamy was frequently injured and of our two reserve strikers, Lua Lua and Ameobi, Lua Lua was much more suited to be Bellamys replacement - in playing Lua Lua, the big man/little man balance remained, we kept the same level of pace in the team, and more to the point, Ameobi and Shearer simply never worked as a partnership. They took up too similar positions, didnt complement each other. To my mind Robson just reached a point where he turned against Lua Lua, and his insistence on playing Ameobi ahead of him in Bellamys absence did nothing for the team, nothing for Lua Lua, and nothing for Ameobi, who I also like as a player but who could never excel in that situation.
And the match is 30 seconds in.
