Too true. On the one side, Messi has got 25+ goals from a second forward position whilst on the other side Mutu has got 13 goals as a forward.

What kind of logic is that, if you reckon he should be top 5 vote for him!
I am going on the last whole season not just from 07 because that is not correct for me. Tempted to do a todo/gigliati and add rossi and rooney since there 07 is up there with anyone's but i wont.
1. Ronaldo - If anyone has a season as good as his in the next few years then i cant wait to see it. He himself will take awhile to equal that.
2. Kaka
3. Ibra
4. rooney - cant help myself
5. drogba.
Would have included messi as num 2, but as kas says these things go over years, and Messi wasnt great in 2004.

Where are these stats on Messi and Mutu from Tweeds? I have that Messi scored 17 goals in total last season, with 12 so far this season, compared to Mutu with 16 last season and 7 this, both in all club competitions. Im struggling to find a breakdown which shows 2007 isolated from the first half of last season. Its worth pointing out that Mutu has also scored six goals in 2007 alone for Romania, in their Euro qualifying campaign. And that Fiorentina, without their 15 point deduction last term, would have finished a comfortable third in Serie A, two points behind Roma. Plus I dont think Mutu really plays any further forward than Messi - hes a second striker in the same vein, playing behind Toni last season then Pazzini.

Tweedy is just biased against anything Serie A.
While I haven't put Mutu in my top 5, I can totally understand why Gigli has put him - its as justified as anyone's list. Mutu was named the best player in Serie A last season, above Ibra, Totti, Kaka, etc. And he hasn't done too badly this season either... apart from the goals, Mutu also regularily has among the highest assists in Serie A. And has been a key reason for Romania's qualification.
Also, Mutu plays as the support striker not as the main striker as tweedy seems to think. If only tweedy had seen a few games before judging someone elses choice...

Mutu is undoubtedly a good player., certainly in the top 20 for this calendar year.
I was being sarcasitic of course though. I thought the idea here was to put aside personal bias and include who you truly felt deserved the award - else I wouldn't have included Ibrah at least, and probably not Messi; at least so high.
And Cesc would definately have been in there; hell its almost justifiable.

Messi is more of a support forward I guess. What I meant was that Mutu plays 'up front' in the classical sense.
And I have seen a few games - a few games, each of which he and the majority of the team have been shite in, losing two and drawing one (luckily as well).
And its not as though I haven't seen him many times before either - he's a very good player but hardly 'the 2nd best player in the year this calendar year'

So what exactly is your problem here? Its my vote, isn't it? Like people already pointed out your statistics are wrong. Mutu was the best player of Serie A last season, so why is it so wrong to vote for him?

Where?

You don't think Mutu or Ibrahemovic were better?
This isn't a Serie A top 5 anyway. You honestly think evenhandedly that he was the 2nd beat player in the world for the calendar year?

Actually Gigli is right, Mutu won the award for the best player of Serie A 2006-07 season, surprisingly over Ibra and Totti.
