*6 March 1902 – Club is founded.
*1905: First Copa del Rey trophy
*1905: Debut of the all-white kits
*2 October 1929: Jaime Lazcano scores the first ever league goal for Real Madrid
*Season 1931-32: First of thirty Spanish League titles
*1943: Santiago Bernabeu is named President of Real Madrid
*1944: Ground is broken as work begins on constructing the stadium known today as the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
*23 October 1953: Signing Alfredo Di Stefano; not only did he go on to be, still, the greatest ever player in the history of the club we swindled him away from Barcelona. Would go on to become the clubs all-time leading scorer and winner of 5 consecutive European Cups.
*13 June 1956: Real Madrid 4 Stade Reims 3: First ever European Cup triumph. Goals by Di Stefano, Rial (2), and Marquitos.
*13 May 1960: Historic European Cup final in Hampden Park against Eintracht Frankfurt, golden moment for Di Stefano (3 goals), Puskas (4 goals), Gento, Santamaria, Pachin etc.
*European Cup 1966: Only Paco Gento remained from the Di Stefano era and the ‘ye-ye’ Real Madrid with eleven Spanish players in the starting lineup defeated Partizan Belgrade to win the European Cup for the 6th time.
*4 June 1980: Copa del Rey Final in the Bernabeu between Real Madrid and Castilla, only time this has happened.
*4 December 1983: Martin Vazquez and Manolo Sanchis were the first two of the now famous “Quinta del Buitre” to debut with the first team. Later that season Butragueno and Pardeza debuted as well. Michel would arrive to the first team the following season. This group would go on to lead Real Madrid to 5 consecutive league championships and 2 UEFA Cups (when it meant something) in the late 80s. Only disappointment with that group was missing out on the ultimate prize, the European Cup.
*2 April 1992: Death of legendary player Juanito Gomez
*29 October 1994: Raul Gonzalez Blanco makes his debut at the age of 17 against Zaragoza in La Romareda. A week later, Raul would score against Atletico becoming the sensation of Spanish football. Will most likely go down as the second most famous player in the history of the club. Could yet surpass Di Stefano as all-time goalscoring leader and Sanchis H. as all-time appearances leader.
*20 May 1998: Pedja Mijatovic scores the only goal in 1-0 victory of Juventus to win the European Cup bringing it back to Madrid after 32 years.
*November 1999: Vicente Del Bosque appointed ‘caretaker’ manager after the sacking of John Toshack. Del Bosque would consolidate himself on the Madrid bench and go on to be one of the most successful managers in club history winning 2 European Cups, 2 Leagues, and 1 Interncontinental Cup.
*Summer 2000: Florentino Perez elected/Luis Figo bought from Barcelona: after Barcelona’s dominant spell in the late 90s, Perez defeated the incumbant Lorenzo Sanz and made good on his promise to buy Figo. The arrival of Figo in his prime was a blow to the azulgrana as well as bringing a truly world class player to the Bernabeu and represented a shift in power for the next several years back to the capital.
*6 October 2001: The greatest player in the history of football Raul Bravo makes his debut. No coincidence that Real Madrid go on to recapture the European Cup this season.
*Summer 2003: With the signing of David Beckham, the Madrid of the “Galacticos” is complete after the signings of Figo, Zidane, and Ronaldo. An emphasis on marketing and the brand of Real Madrid would emerge and the all-star cast would one by one leave the club and failed to win a single title with the four on the pitch.
*16 June 2007: Real Madrid 3 Mallorca 1; end of trophy drout lasting since the 2003 Spanish Super Cup victory (coincidentally, against Mallorca). Goals by Diarra and Reyes (2) give the club its 30th League Championship over Barcelona on the “goal average” rule.
