Skrtel is a major doubt for Barnsley.

Hope he's back for Inter, I thought his performance against Chelsea warrants a starting place next to carra on tuesday, wish Agger was back but don't know when that will be

Indeed, and despite all those injuries, they are only really missing 3 starters. Jimenez is playing better than Stank this season and has been a revelation, not a particularly big loss there. Samuel was playing brilliantly, but Materazzi will do a good job. The big loss is Maicon, since they rely on him to push forward alot. Burdisso is solid, but offers practically nothing going forward. They could play Zanetti but then their midfield would get a bit messed up.

How many Inter players would get into the Liverpool team or vise versa?

Ibra, Chivu and maybe Zanetti

If we're talking about full strength sides then Masch/Alonso instead of Vieira, and perhaps Torres instead of Crespo/Cruz. And also, Agger instead of Cordoba.

Burdisso is more of a right sided defender whereas Maicon is a wing back. Still, away from home it may be good to have a bit more defensive cover.

If I were to do a combined squad it would be:

Maicon---Carragher--Samuel----Chivu

Gerrard--Cambiasso--Alonso--Stankovic

I still believe Burdisso is a centre back playing at right back. But yeh, like you said, away from home it may be useful but its still undeniable that Maicon is one of Inters most important players.

As for the team, Julio Cesar and Reina is too close to call, both very solid. Agree with the defence. As for the midfield, id go with a diamond as follows:

But anyway, i still think Liverpool will in, you know what they are like in Europe and you know what Inter are like.

Masch has been immense in some games. Alonso hasn't had a good game for us all season IMO, don't know about personal problems

We are lacking the magic, the belief and the work ethic really, it just looks like we can't score when Torres doesn't play and even when he does we're relying solely on him.

What I would say though is they will be difficult opponents for rafa to out think. Barca worked last year because they attacked us and offered us the space we needed to grab some away goals. Inter will be more compact. Rafa has succeeded in tight games against technically compact teams in the past (juve, chelsea x2) however there was very little in these ties.

I have no idea how this will go. Inter may freeze in the first half at anfield and gerrard and torres may blitz them. Once we are ahead it is difficult for any team to comeback. Or we may produce another cagey, wasteful performance placing the tie firmly in Inter's hand.

It's a very difficult tie to place money on.

This bit is true for the season but surely will not be true next week. With the right work rate ( and no, this does not mean dirk shite has to play ), I think we will get a good lead.

I am happy to admit I am ignorant towards Inter's supposed brilliance having never actually seen any proof of it.

All over the pitch there is strength. They ran away with the Italian league last year and might do the same this time around, I fear them much more than I feared Barca or Chelsea. We are going to have to be at the very top of our game to get through this one, something which we haven't shown for a lot of the season, it's really time to deliver.

Don't get me wrong COTR, it's by no means beyond Liverpool, Inter are used to a quiet atmosphere so coming to Anfield will give them a shock

It was only a friendly but Inter gave Man Utd a footballing lesson in preseason.

Inter are like a machine but with also a bit of flair.

I agree with COTR in that Inter could just freeze and Liverpool could blitz them.

I don't think Inters team is frightening on paper (but then a team doesnt have to be frightening to win the CL), they do work very together though and are very effective.

They havent been brilliant in Serie A since Christmas and theyve had a few decisions go their way in recent weeks. It will be very close but i'd put my money on Liverpool.
