I tad surprising I must say, not because I think he doesn't deserve it, but because he is the smallest name in the list. I think Essien and Drogba are very unlucky to not get the award.

Congratulations Manu, you've really improved your game. <Ale>

Probably should have gone to Drogba to be honest but Adebayor has been great so far this year...

its the bbc award not the 'real' one.
didnt they just award something to essien too?
how can he deserve it over drogba who has scored more goals and actually won something in the last year?
    public poll perhaps?

I think it is the real one, the ACON is sponsored by BBC. it's like E-On with the FA Cup. On second thought......... Don't they usually have a big ceremony and stuff?

Just shows football fans have no memories and just speak on current times. Adebayor has been great this season, but for last year, then drogba or kanoute surely.

The 2007 shortlist of five players was drawn up by football experts from every country in Africa, based on players' individuality, skill, technical ability, teamwork, consistency and fair play.

So it wasn't a public vote.....Which makes this nomination all the more puzzling.

Drogba and Kanoute should be the 1st and 2nd IMO......

yeah also think it should have gone to drogba or kanoute.

Congratulations to ade though. He´s really improved a lot and has fully convinced me now( was very sceptical about his qualities) that he´ll go on to become a class player baring any injuries.

when he signed for arsenal i remember lots people calling him adebadbuy just few weeks into his arsenal career, those people must be looking stupid now. He´s still slated for his finishing among arsenal fans which surprisingly enough is the second best in the epl according to opta stats (only anelka has got better goals/shots).

He´ll be a hell of a player if he fine tunes certain aspects of his game.

He's come a long way since his first game at Arsenal anyway. He couldn't finish, and he seemed clumsy. Now he finishes very well and his all round game is fantastic. Maybe next year he deserves this award. But this year no <Ale>

Well he may be a shite centre back, but he's a shite centre back who won both domestic cups, finished 2nd in the league and lost in the CL semis on penalties. Wink

Anyway, he didn't make the Premiership or UEFA teams of the year. His place was instead awarded to Saint Gerrard. Ale

Me i'm not surprised at all that he is doing very well.

He wanted to stay at Monaco but compared to the other superstars at monaco his salary was a joke.he wanted them to give him the same amount of money but the Monaco's director refused.

During one year he was complaining all the time! In every tv emissions he talked about his "mediocre salary" (something like £10.000/month)Finally after 1 year of war they decided to give him a better salary but something was broken and they sold him at Arsenal.Believe me he can have a very bad behaviour <Ale>

Most Arsenal fans knew that when we signed him in the early part of 2006. Didn't he go on strike for the Togo national team over bonus and appearance payments?

He will be turning 24 next month so he should be maturing as a person now, he seems to be very much enjoying his time at Arsenal.

As for the award, I am somewhat surprised. Kanoute and Drogba both had brilliant 2007's.

Kanoute is an interesting contender. For some reason I forgot about him within the reckoning for this, maybe because he was French for all those years. As you say Kas, one of the first two, Essien hasn't done quite enough.

No i keep my comments. When he played at Metz in D2 he was very prolific and the first time i saw him in the french d1 he was amazing...When he signed at Monaco he was good but nothing special...He had problems to score and his behaviour was debatable...

I don't see where my comments shocked you.he isn't better at Arsenal than when he was at Metz. The fact you seem to think he has changed just how much you know about french league... <Ale>
