When was the last time a GK was voted player of the year?

I'm talking only about the premiership.
IMO only 3 players were outstanding or close to it: Ronaldo (close to it), Torres (close to it) and James (outstanding).
Around 10 more rounds to be played, but i don't think something will be changed drastically.
Maybe you have some other plyers in mind, but James can easily win it. I can't count how many times he saved Port. ass this season.

Do you mean the PFA Players' Player of the Year. Only 2 goalkeepers have won the award: Pat Jennings & Peter Shilton. In the Premiership Era, none. James should have a chance, but like you’ve mentioned it be tough.

James is probably the only keeper who's been consistently brilliant in the Prem this season, but he won't get near the POTY award. All individual awards are ridiculously biased to offensive players.

Schmichael perhaps and I think Cech.

James defientely deserves a shout. He should be in the EPL Team of the Year for sure but you just know the EPL winning keeper will get the nod

Maldini.........and then I'm struggling

Since when has Maldini been EPOTY or even WPOTY. Beckenbauer must be the only player to have won the EPOTY, then again he wasn’t solely a defender/sweeper. He started attacks and most of the time scored them.

I'am perhaps getting mixed up with the Champions League awards chill.

Wait according to World Soccer Magazine, Maldini did win their ‘World Player of the Year’ award in 1994.

I thought he did but then they awarded it to Weah instead...?
