We made a plan to attack, it backfired. We played more cautiously and won. How are we a disgrace?
I just watched this game now. I felt Madrid deserved a draw but Roma definitely improved on their league form.
"It was a great game between two attacking sides and I think the second leg is very open. It could be even better than this one", was what Bernd Schuster should have said after Real Madrid's 2-1 defeat to Roma, on Tuesday night, a match where El Pais felt that his side "lacked the fertility of other days".
But instead, Bernado decided to switch to his default misery-guts mode and jabbed the finger of footballing blame firmly in the direction of Herr Herbert Fandel, Tuesday's man in the middle.
"He doesn't deserve to be a countryman of mine", blasted Bernd. "He was a homer...he blew almost all of the time in favour of Roma", continued the moustachioed moaner as he added Germany to Catalunya in the short list of places where he feels referees have it in for him.
Of course, Real Madrid's myopic manager is happily overlooking Raul's outrageous dive that brought a yellow for Di Rossi and Robben's outrageous dive that brought a dangerous free kick for the visitors.
And not to mention the fact that Diarra was a gnat's duvet away from being sent off for two yellows, something even Marca feel would have been a fair call.
Looking ahead though and AS' Tomas Roncero is very, very excited about the prospect of the second leg at the Bernabeu, in Wednesday's post partido piece.
"There will be 85,000 throats ripped with emotion, when, in the 90th minute, Real Madrid go through to the quarters, while a tearful Sergio Ramos applauds from the stands (watching) the heroes of the 5th March and...the greatest club of all time".
The man is either utterly insane or desperately needs to get laid. La Liga Loca-ettes. It's time to do your duty.
Marca's very own loon, Roberto Gomez, tells his readers about his lovely day out in Rome. But more importantly, he tells his readers about all the very, very important people he met as he merrily went about his day.
The highlight for the raving-mad Roberto was "finding himself with the prestigious cardiologist, doctor Gomez-Angulom, who came over from Malaga especially to see the game".
Baring in mind that Gomez' recent columns have consisted of glowing tributes to his favourite restaurant, repeated claims to the greatness of Florentino Perez and a plug for some flats that his construction magnate mate is trying to flog, La Liga Loca suspects Gomez is looking for a spot of surgery on the cheap. Possibly to have his head removed from his ***.

The Brazilian only signed for the Giallorossi in the summer from Real, however he has featured sparingly in the Italian capital.
He has made just six starts in Serie A, and was left out of the recent weekend defeat to Juventus.
Cicinho was made to believe that this was because he was set to play against his former employers in the Champions League last 16 first leg clash at the Stadio Olimpico last night.
However the 27-year-old was again snubbed, and upon learning of his omission, he is believed to have immediately demanded that he be transfer listed.
Roma agreed to the player’s proposal and said that he would be sold in the summer.
Cicinho had been looking forward to this game for several weeks, and had done a number of interviews in the Italian and Spanish press in recent days.

He is becoming really annoying, was he this childish at Madrid?

Do you really feel that Real are that much better then Roma? i had roma as the team i least wanted to meet in last 16 allthough i have been a little disapointed by roma i think they shouldnt be far from each other in terms of quality. on their first 11 i think roma can match most teams allthough i think they will be even better next year or year after that when aquilani gets matured. rossi-aquilani will great but i think they have to hold on to mancini and get someone of similar quality on the other flank.il piccolo Coccodrillo wrote:I'm looking forward to the second leg already!
Having beaten such a good Real Madrid in the 1st leg feels like having managed to shag a top class hottie on a lucky night. In which case you just have to enjoy the feeling, dont call her, and wait until next time you see her (2nd leg), which is when she could probably realise you were not that fit and the dream could be over… However if you play smart and act cool you may be able to fool her a 2nd time, which is when she gives up and you can call the shots. Forza Roma!

So is Van Nistelrooy. So this means that we'll be missing out on:
Robben, RVN, Saviola, Metzelder, Ramos (suspension), and Sneijder

wow seems a good chance Real Madrid will be going out. I read some comments from Madrid fans talking about the midfield and attack, but that defence will be the problem. Pepe is just back from awhile out, Heinze is very dodgy, Torres is still young and makes mistakes. Casillas has to be on top form tonight.
AcciDrenthe wrote:No Dutchies? That spells disaster...
If robinho plays bad we could well be going out. there is alot of pressure on him to deliver and hopefully it wont get to him since he is prob still a bit rusty.Jaime wrote:Lineup predicted by Marca:
