Look...Pirlo has the status of can do no wrong...if he's rubbish he's good...if he's average or above he's brilliant.

It's just personal opinion...I'm not saying he was bad...I just thought there were players who had a better world cup in our squad than he did.

    Ok I'll rephrase...

Pirlo was amazing...there was no player who even done anything like him, we might aswell take the 4th star from our shirt and just give it to Pirlo himself...

Without exaggeration or sarcasm...there were at least 4!

Pirlo was the main difference against both Portugal and Benfica this year
And I actually tough he was quite consistent in the WC

He had a good WC, just doesn't get a lot of recognition because his role isn't as glamorous as other, and his role is effective rather than being spectacular.

    Zambrotta and Gattuso also...

It has nothing to do with Pirlo's role...infact he is a very elegant player IMO. I am a fan of his...I'm not slating him or saying I don't like him...but I think saying he is THE player for the Italy team is going a bit too far...sure he's very important...but so are others just as much.

I am not sure aboyt 6/7, but I agree with what you are implying.... Pirlo was not the best Italian player in the world cup... if anyone, it was probbaly Buffon, or Cannavaro. Pirlo had an average World Cup.

Its this season when that shift has happened IMO. This season, Pirlo has been the stand out player for Italy and Milan. For a few years now, Pirlo was World Class, but not the best. Now Pirlo is looking like he believe he is the best... just like 8 years ago he used to believe that in the U21 arena.

4 years ago, Totti used to be THE player for Italy. Of what I have been in last 12 months, now its Pirlo.

FFS...do voting systems always give a clear indication? Zidane top of that list is pathetic itself...he was useless for all of the group games, then got sent off in the final. But, if this speaks the truth so much...he must've been the best player throughout the WC.

Grosso played an important role for us at the WC...more so than Pirlo IMO...yet due to Grosso being in poor form, and a more unfashionable player...noone would even dream about saying this.

I tend to not be a player flavour of the month person...no point tbh.

    For me:

    2) Canna
    3) Pirlo

I personally thought Pirlo was very important. 6-7 was just too excessive.

Seems like Cassano would've been a great addition to todays squad...

    Fair enough.

Here is my reasoning for Pirlo in 3rd:

1- Ghana scored, set up the second
2- USA- set up the first goal (free-kick)
    3- Czech- Nothing significant
4- Germany- set up Grosso, had an awesome game.

Those are the highlights and does not even count his quiet work.

Grosso was and is great for me. He also set up the goal for Toni yesterday. He should have never gone to Inter.

Erm, thats totally out of context...do you work for The Sun?

I have said Grosso has been poor lately...I haven't been a fan of the way he has been playing...yet I can recgonise and praise him for the way he was before. That's not being a flavour of the month person at all is it?

Unfortunately, you still think Pirlo was one of our top 3 players in the WC...despite that being a wrong assumption IMO, it's simply as he's playing well now, people seem to suddenly think he was great then too.

I accept that he is one of the golden boys...who can do no wrong in the majority of Italy fans eyes...but not for me...if I don't think he was that brilliant I'll say it.

You said you weren't a flavour of the month person, and I used your own words to suggest some evidence to the contrary.

" I used to be a fan, but not so much anymore"....that sounds at least somewhat tinged with capriciousness.

I thought Grosso was immense for us at the World Cup, and I thought he was pretty good yesterday. He set up Toni. He was, though, a little slow.

The rest is too bizarre to merit comment.

I agree that if the voting would have happend after the final Canavaro would have won. Leave your french bias aside and Zidane had a great WC and was the best player before the final. Nobody thought France would make the final. And they did because of Zidane and Ribery. While Canavaro and Buffon had a great WC, Pirlo was the best offensive player for Italy.

lrd, give it up man. C.Ronaldo had an other bad game against a top team that can defend. What a shock. Laughing From what I've seen C.Ronaldo would be very bad in Serie A. No worries, he still might go to La Liga and "impress" there.
