Kohler has been out of a job since being sacked in April with the Bundesliga outfit struggling to avoid relegation.
The 50-year-old has now been handed a two-year deal to coach The Elephants and will be aiming to bring African Cup of Nations glory to the country in 2008.
The former German international succeeds Henri Michel in the job and has plenty of international experience having played over 105 times for his country.
His first game in charge will be a friendly match against French side Nice on September 1.
Pretty surprising for me, I thought they're prefering French coaches over there...maybe the Klinsi effect...
However, good luck Jürgen!
