Is Drogba overpriced?
I have always thougt so. I know he is a very good player and have always said he is very underrated in England but i thought that 24 million chelsea paid for was a bit over the odds. Now i have read on channel 4( which i think is a bit reliable) that milan are prepared to pay 21 million for him. That has got me thinking whether he is overpriced or not, what do u guys think?

Re: Is Drogba overpriced?
h ecan add a whole different dimension to a team so in a sense he's not just a luxury foward player,
24 Million is a bit much
15-17 million is his actual value i would say

Re: Is Drogba overpriced?
For me to pay over 20 million for a striker he needs to be clocking in 20 goals in the domestic league alone.
Now the fact that I just don't like him means i'd value him at 10 million.

Indeed.....I believe Juve had a £12million bid accepted for him that summer.
Still Im pretty pleased we bought him. One of my favourite players.

Drogba is one of my favourite players...
Of course he was overpriced (I value him at £15-18m), any time that Chelsea come in for a player the price will go up by a significant percentage.
I would have to disagree with Robert's statement about 20 goals - by that Statement Michael Owen, for example or Pippo Inzaghi are worth more than Drogba because they score more. So what about all-round game, then? Drogba did top the assist charts last season... so if a poacher like Owen was to score 23 goals but offer nothing else, and Drogba has superior all round game and brings 12 goals & 11 assists to the table, who is more valuable? The player that you only notice when he scores, or the best Targetman in the world?

Re: Is Drogba overpriced?
Drogba is a excellent player he may not be perfect but seems to fit in well with different formations and line-ups. Makes and scores goals, also is not injury prone what else do you want.

Crouch = Kanu with work-rate, but less skill.

Not denying that - but Kanu is incredibly skilful, when it suits him.borocooper wrote:He does have some good skills though.

Re: Is Drogba overpriced?
Kanu's last goal was that of a clever old fox. Got the ball in his own half took off .Then when approaching goal he new a player was catching up so he run right in front of him to slow him down and controll the threat. smart goal.....

Re: Is Drogba overpriced?
Yes, Drogba was overpriced. So was Essien, Shevchenko, Carvalho, Ferreira and most of Chelsea's other players. So was Rooney, so was Carrick. So was Ronaldo (Madrid), Figo, Zidane, Crespo...
Spend any more than 15 million on a player and you're paying for reputation and the selling club's unwillingness to let the player go. No one, no matter how good, is worth more than that, given the actual money in football.
Nonetheless, Drogba is a talented and hardworking forward who dives a bit, cheats a bit, whines a lot but nonetheless scores a fair few and sets up loads for the people around him. He's an excellent targetman who would work in almost any league in the world (i.e. has large sell-on value). Chelsea overspent on almost everyone (yet got Joe Cole for 7 million, which is a steal), so Drogba's not exceptional in that regard.

Re: Is Drogba overpriced?
Well, if he is not worth that now he might well be...inflation is going on globally very very quickly my friend, there's too much money in the world, from oil, to chinease toys going through soy and gold, all the way to Drogba, everything's going up
Anyway, I don't know if there aren't other strikers to buy rather than Didier for that kind of money

It's not just Boro who've received top praise from Jose.
Indeed, why doesn't anybody ever complain about somebody like Mark Hughes

For what it's worth, I look at it like this. Imo, it doesn't matter whether or not you think someone's overpriced or not, you've gotta look at what's going on around the transfer world.
Rooney was bought by Man Utd for £27m, RVN £20m, Robinho for £21m, Owen £17m (despite being completely injury prone), etc. Therefore, I believe Drogba is worth £24m.
The fact is, Droggy will score between 15-20 goals (not quite 20 though, more 17-18) in a season, and will make (or being involved) in another 10-15 goals, possibly more. He will also do fantastically defensively and is the perfect out and out target man for the Prem (pace, power, good in the air etc) The only thing that stops Drog being the best striker in the world imo, is his real lack of composure, though he has been getting better lately.
