It would be crazy to fire Schuster now and I think he deserves till the end of next season at least to show his worth. Schuster has certainly made a lot of mistakes, something I've never been afraid of pointing out. But in the end we have a squad that is in dire need of improvement and on top of that 4 important players (Ramos, Robben, Ruud, Sneijder) couldn't play last night while two (Guti and Robinho) had just come back from injury.
If people here are acknowledging that the Madrid squad lacks quality and we had several injuries to with that, why should Schuster get slaughtered over last night? Indeed he has made the mistake of not rotating the squad enough, but having so many injured players for such a crucial game is certainly very unlucky.
If Schuster wins the league this season, then all is forgiven in my case. Next season will be the real judgment day for Schuster. I want to see what Schuster does if he gets a proper winger, fit CBs, and a creative midfielder that doesn't play well only once every six games (Guti).
However, I don't want to seem as if I'm just using injuries as an excuse. I say that in support of Schuster, but as a club, we had no excuse for going out last night. We spent a lot of money yet again this summer (and a lot of it was obviously mispent by Mijatobitch) and we obviously didn't buy wisely. We also played against an inferior rival that most top teams in Europe would have surely beaten.
And the players in the field just didn't turn up. Heinze and Cannavaro made amateur mistakes in both goals (and Casillas is also partly to blame for the second one), Pepe stupidly got red-carded, Baptista got his touch of a rapist back - kicking the ball about 5 meters too far whenever he got it, Guti missed every pass he attempted, etc.
The only players who were at least half-decent last night were Raul, Drenthe, and Gago. Everybody else was a complete embarassment.
