    Both England & Germany have technically skilled players. They'll both never be top of the world in this area (average skill of the entire team), but there are lots of other things that determine who wins a footy match/ who is the best footballer.

    True! ok

    As replacement for Schweinsteiger I take J. Cole but he isn't technically superior to Ballack let alone to Schneider. And if you think Mertesacker is technically inferior to any of your defenders Berniebärchen, then you are a lost cause. Sad

    Actually, Cole isnt really a winger at all. He plays there because he can, but as a youth player he was a central midfielder, and a lot of people in football as well as those who watch it would agree his best position would be more central as a playmaker. A dearth of left wingers is how he ended up playing the position for England.

    And the mere statement that Cole would make a "good replacement" for Schweinsteiger has me chuckling to myself Ball. Certainly good to see German humour is alive and well Biggrin

    Schweinsteiger is no winger either, more of a CM/LM. Tbh, I would take J. Cole over Schweinsteiger any day, he would suit our midfield perfectly. Schweini has been a liability for years now, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. f@ck, the DFB should have tried to poach Herrn Cole. Who knows, maybe he has some very distant relatives from Germany. Wink

    Was Cole ever used as a CM for England? A midfield with him, Hargreaves, Bentley and someone else (Young???) would be interesting to see. And it can't be more dire than your current set-up. That's for sure. Razz

    As DG says, neither nation is renowned for producing dazzling technical footballers. Strengths lie elsewhere. Germany's strengths are simple: their ability is dictated by their haircuts (and moustaches) in a Samson style fashion. Notice how badly Ballack was playing when he had a skinhead. Now he has regrown his Teuton barnet, he career has taken an upturn too. The best German footballers had the biggest hair. Its obvious: if Germany want to win Euro 2008, they must return to their permed afro roots. Literally <Ale>

    lol!

    Could be a good advice for Bernd Schneider, who's completely out of form at the moment. If it helps him to find back to his old self, then I wouldn't mind encouraging him to regrow a mullet and moustache.

    cheers Wink

    Great photo Ball Biggrin <Ale> Nobody does a mullett and 'tache combo quite aswell as the Germans. Some of our lot have given it a go (this Keegan - minus the tache, Seaman, Waddle), but it had never impressed me in the same way. All these new age short back and sides that the likes of Podolski, Klose and Lahm are displaying is just so unbecoming. Bring back the Voller look says I - and with it will come the success!

    Cole has never been used in CM for England. He did play a few games as a roaming support striker (??!!!) under Mclaren (enough said), but there is no doubt he is far more useful given some freedom, like he gets at Chelsea where he is often operating as one part of a 3 pronged attack (against us, Spurs, the other week in the 4-4 game he was almost unplayable, absolutely fantastic);

    yet still he is often the most creative outlet for the England side despite being stuck out on the left.

    I would love to see a midfield like this:

    ---------------------Carrick----------------Hargreaves/Barry-------------

    -----Gerrard/Bentley---------------Joe Cole-------------------------Young

    To me, that would be a strong midfield, sa you say- certainly no worse than the current set up! And this formation was used in the first half against France under Capello and looked better than the flat 4 in the second.

    @bernd

    if you want to play Rooney you have to play him in MIDFIELD

    that is what he is: a MIEDFIELDER like VDV, Diego, Ribery...

    he is useless as a striker

    if you give him the number 10 shirt though, you CANNOT play Cole or Gerrard there

    and that's what you have to figure out , if you want England to move forward

    Actually, he plays upfront for United, but in an interchangeable system where he can drop deep and Tevez can move forward and vice versa. So he can play there, but needs appropriate support. Just look at him this weekend - hardly useless.

    You are right though (for a change. Bless Biggrin ), there is a conundrum there that needs to be resolved. I would personally risk playing Cole in a free role behind Rooney with the opportunity to move forward if needs be. Both have abundant natural ability and given time could form a partnership of sorts

    @bernd

    you are a sweet chap

    a typical Hungarian dreamer

    Rooney infront of Cole would NOT work

    Rooney has ZERO tactical discipline and Cole up front is useless (should they decide to switch)

    you CANNOT play Rooney alone up front since he does not have FAST support from the wings like at ManU; nor is there a player like Tevez would can score goals from within the penalty area; Gerrard is totally different

    England don't have a C.Ronaldo either

    ie:

    you HAVE to go with Crouch or somebody up front, use Cole on the wing, ditto Gerrard, IF you want to play him

    unless you play with ONE DMC only and two strikers; then Gerrard can play in the middle

    in the Capello system, you have to drop either Rooney or Gerrard though

    What is exactly the problem.

    Too many Portuguese fans think that our strikers should be Eusebio. In recent times, Pauleta had a very good strike rate, so we said he can only score against weak teams. Nuno Gomes has a very good strike rate as well, in comparison to minutes on the field. But, he's $h!t, and can't play alone as in the Portuguese system, in some peoples opinion.
