Best team in the world - Strikers

The final poll. 4 votes each again then tomorrow night or the day after I'll see who's won this and the centre mid poll and then we'll have our best team in the world first team and second team which I'll post in a seperate thread to discuss debate.

Interesting to see in the poll that so many established names are off form this year or on their way down...whereas the in-form ones are not that established yet to be considered for a "Best in the world" team.

Eto'o, Villa, Rooney, and Higuain for me. Honourable mention for Forlan and Milito.

As I've said I didn't want to end up with Messi and Ronaldo up front, then where do any of these guys fit in? The team will look good when finished and it will be interesting to compare the first and second teams.

I guess the biggest problem you have is that your poll is based on a 4-4-2, which hardly any top teams play anymore. You'd have been better off basing it around a 4-2-3-1.

Villa on the left, Messi on the right, Robben behind Eto'o.

I'd rather have a team where Tevez and Villa are the strikers with Messi also being included then a team where Messi is up front with 3 attacking forwards behind him for the euroboard team.

Rooney and Drogba's form this season wouldn't get themm into Accrington Stanley's team. But on form of the last 5 years, both would be in top 5.

06/07 14 goals 12 assists not bad, but does it deserve the hype no!!, cl 4 goals

07/08 12 goals 13 assists, cl 4 / 1; not bad but far away from a top 5 player in the world

08/09 12 / 7 its getting worse; cl 4/3; again a normal striker in my eyes, no one would call this in germany WORLD BEATER

2010 26 / 2 cl 5/1 not bad, all scored in 3 months; but i prefer a more consistent player over a whole season;

those stats say to me; hes a good player, nothing more, far away from a top 5 player in his positon

Rather unimpressive list. Nilmar, Aguero, Cassano, Gomez, Benzema are not omissions (not that I would necessarily vote for any of them) and WTF is Balotelli doing on the poll anyway?

If I had to pick four strikers for a world squad I would also go with Higuain + Pato, but that's a personal fetish I guess. Hard luck on Drogba who has been excellent for ages, but had a poor season. Rooney has scored about 2 goals this season, certainly wouldn't pick him.

That said I don't personally think Gomez is in the best four strikers in the world, but he definitely should be on the list.

You slate Rooney, but what the hell has Gomez done in the last 4 years to warrant inclusion? He's having a great scoring season finally after years of hype - yes GERMAN hype: you look down your nose, declaring Germans don't hype up their players like the English, but that is exactly what has been the case with Gomez for sometime now.

By the way, Rooney has only been outscored in the EPL by Drogba in the last 5 years.

Would he warrant inclusion anyway considering he scored 49 goals in a season last year ? Good World Cup performance as well.
