Post by Isco Benny Sun Mar 30, 2008 12:21 pm

I have always maintained that the kid is one of the best finishers in the league; and like most Spurs fans was gutted to see him leave, but equally expectant that he would prove himself as a top class player.

Never given the opportunity at club or country to fully prove himself. Hopefully this will soon change.

Miles better than Bent and Owen:Ale:

Capello MUST pick him next time. And whilst he's at it, pick Carrick too. Both ex Spuds players are in top form

Defoe's never proven himself for England though. Owen has, and Bent's never been given the chance to.

Who the f@ck would you play him with too? Rooney? Its been tried before and didn't work

It takes more than a couple of games for a partnership to be tested..

    <Ale>

Defoe has never been given a run of games for England. And the Rooney Owen partnership never really worked, so was it any suprise it didnt work the few time Defoe was given the chance?

Tweedle- I'll ask you this; currently would you carry on picking Owen in the hope he picks up his international form (without Heskey in the team this is unlikely), or pick a player who is on fire in the league and deserves his place based on merit?

Im not saying he should necessarily start for England, but by God he should be on the bench instead of Owen right now

On current form he deserves his place. But, he has never done it for England before (except against Andorra) and has been given more chances/time to prove himself than people realise.

Is defoe $h!t for England or are England $h!t for Defoe ?

He is a proper footballer - he has no place in the England squad.

It seems that Ramos is a good fitness instructor but a poor judge of a striker.

If he moves to a team aspiring for Europe next season like Newcastle or maybe even Spurs if Berbs leaves he'll make you eat those words.

Probably not a good example as the Eredvisie is probably not the best league to compare with but his scoring record there was phenomenal. Someone just needs to take a gamble on him.

Started 18 games for City in the league(41 appearances if you include when he's come on as subs)..4 goals and 5 assists. According to soccernets stats..

Stats dont show all..but they show a fair bit. You could honestly say all those things about Ricard..he was tall, scored goals with both feet(some brilliant goals) decent in the air, decent passing ability..decent ball control...but only sometimes..he was a pretty poor footballer at the end of the day.

Samaras has bags ability, when on top of his game he is brilliant with the ball at his feet taking on defenders, he is strong and good in the air and knows where the back of the net is. However, when his confidence takes a knock his games suffers amazingly.
