Corruption Inquiry
Setanta Sports News reporting that the FA are to investigate reports that a player accepted a £50,000 bribe to fix a match. Anyone heard about this? Anyone who it is and what match he allegedly fixed?

Re: Corruption Inquiry
The (alleged) details are that the player accepted a deal of 50,000 pounds that would wipe out his (alleged) gambling debts in exchange for being sent off, and convincing 3 teammates to get booked.

Re: Corruption Inquiry
Don't think he's the type to rack up gambling debts...I've also read that it happened in "Britain", but no details on who or where. So it'll probably be some midtable Scottish match 2 seasons ago that no one gives a $h!t about anyway.

Re: Corruption Inquiry
Can't see it occurring in the Premier League. Very few players in the top flight would be willing to take such a risk for such (relatively) small sums of money. For a Premiership player to get £50,000 into debt, I can't imagine, is the most serious situation. For the majority it's less than a month's work. It makes it much more likely that this incident, if true, occurred in a lower division or elsewhere in the UK.

Re: Corruption Inquiry
Apparently it was reported in the INdependent. Don't think he has been named. I believe he was sent off though.

Re: Corruption Inquiry
Reports say it was former Premiership player and it appears to have been within last two years. It came to light in a semiar on gambling at Sporting Chance, but neither player, nor club has been mentioned. All they have said is that it was in Britain.

This is true, but he's also reasonably adept at getting sent off.

Re: Corruption Inquiry
Can anyone identify a player from the following info:
- Played with Neil Lennon (N Ireland, Leicester, Celtic, etc?)
- Now retired
- He had massive gambling debts...obviously
- He slept in his car outside his football club's stadium
This is the player who received the money to be sent off according to a poster on a Celtic forum.
Cheers
