Hamsik to me is more a DM then a box to box midfielder ,neither Aguero and Zapata would be cheap.

he'd bust most of his budget on one player if he tried for Kun, lets be honest there's only one club that could afford him and it they don't play in red

It got me thinking though. If/when Flamini leaves in the summer, Gareth Barry would be a very good replacement and someone who could work well with Fabregas in the centre.
I know most don't really care, but it would be a good English player at Arsenal as well.

with the season over, what team/line-ups do you want Wenger to play for the rest of the season.
Arsenal v Reading
Derby v Arsenal

Start Walcott for the majority of the games. Give Cesc, Hleb and Ade a week's rest. Lynch Epoohay. Make Toure captain until he reitres. Test out Van Persie on the right, with Theo on the left and Bendtner upfront as a Targetman. Play Song in the middle with Cesc.

For the right player, I think you'd be surprised how much money we'd have. Not sure that Aguero would be money well spent anyway.
Would love to see Zapata sign for us. He'd be a replacement for Gallas over time

Re: Arsenal FC Summer 2008 Thread
Aguero's buyout is set at £35m, don't know why Marcotti mentioned him seeing as Wenger would never pay that figure for anyone.
As for the line-ups over the next four games, let Walcott have an extended run in the team as a right winger with Hleb on the left. As for the rest, Wenger will probably use them wisely if they are expected to be used this summer by their countries. Wenger is close with van Basten for example, so I doubt we use van Persie unless totally 100% fit.
Us coming second will only happen if Man Utd take points off Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, if not forget it.

For £35m, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Chelsea make a bid this summer. They've been rumours about this in the papers too.

Merida hasn't done too well. Some believe that he's actually regressed. As yet hasn't nailed down a starting berth at Real.

he's too slow to complement fabregas's attacking, flamini is fast and energetic, like mascherano etc barry is more like carrick slightly more athletic
if you played a good team you have to bring a destroyer on to help them as manu did with fletcher when it was carrick+scholes

Re: Arsenal FC Summer 2008 Thread
bear in mind, at Villa, Barry plays alongside ReoCoker - who now plays in pretty much a Makalele, sit-back-and-break-down-play kind of role. Barry can play as more a straight dm - as he has done for England - but he's better with a bit more freedom, which is what ReoCoker allows.110% wrote:Cesc wrote:It got me thinking though. You think Wenger decides exactly how much money a player gets paid Frank?
Its not as though we haven't been holding negotiations Frank - its the amount that is being argued about.

for me the first error of judgement was in letting it get down to such a short period left on his contract and that i am pretty sure must be a wenger call and i do believe he is consulted over wages, albeit prob doesn't have the final say.

Well I think you'd struggle to find anyone that could have predicted that Flamini would have developed over the course of one season into one of the best DMs in Europe Frank.
Wenger's pretty good at spotting potential but he's no Nostradamus.

the fact he chose him there initially ahead of gilberto, having not given him the captaincy (surely due to the thought he may not actually be first choice) suggests otherwise

One good season does not make a player 'one of the best ... in Europe'. Look at Eboue.
