DFB Pokal Finale 2008 Empty DFB Pokal Finale 2008

Post by anglophileHedgehog Sat Apr 19, 2008 3:43 pm

I'm currently watching the ladies' one any my, my, the first ten minutes have been pretty interesting so far. Shocked Frankfurt had a pretty clear goal not given after a corner, Saarbrücken (the underdog) then scored before conceding a penalty (someone tripped Birgit Prinz up in the box), which in turn was saved by Saarbrücken's goalie.

Weiter so, meine Damen! Very Happy ok

Current score: Saarbrücken - Frankfurt 1-0

EDIT: Natalie Budge scored for Saarbrücken in the 4th minute.

I wonder if Dortmund will get slaughtered again. I hope not though, I'd rather see one of those classic Pokal finals. Last year's final was awesome, hopefully we'll see another cracker this time.

Expect Bayern to win it easily though...

... which is why I'm still debating whether or not I'll spread my germs in the pub tonight.

    1-1 Frankfurt, Wimbersky.

What time do the games usually start? I'm guessing they start and finish quite early in the afternoon so the women can go home and make dinner for their husband.

A lucky escape for Bayern, Frei was bundled over in the box and it would have been a definite penalty, except he was flagged offside (a late but correct call). Otherwise Bayern are controlling the game. Dortmund have picked up a few bookings already.

edit: Dortmund are starting to threaten the Bayern goal. Tinga just had a good chance but took too long over it and was denied by a fine block.

This is the problem. How can she find time to cook, clean, iron and food shop while playing football? Confounded!

Dortmund have equalised in injury time! A scrappy goal from a corner, but probably a deserved goal. It's been a good second half.

    1-1 after 90 minutes. Extra-time coming up.

That's what you get if you play Hitzfeld's result-oriented football. He doesn't understand that this isn't the 2001 team. Let them attack for chrissakes!

Great effort from Kringe and excellent stop from Kahn. Dortmund are playing well. I must admit I wasn't optimistic about this being a close game when Toni scored so early on, but credit to Dortmund for making a game of it.

Did Thomas Doll do a Sepp Herberger? Let Bayern slaughter them in the league (where Dortmund has nothing to play for anyway), give them a false sense of security so they become complacent, just like Herberger did with Hungary in 1954, and then shock them in the cup?

Naaaaaah, it's still Thomas Doll, and Dortmund are still losing....

Feel sorry for Dortmund though, they were the better team in extra time.

    Bayern 2-1 Dortmund AET

Feel sorry for Dortmund. They played well and were beat by a fortunate goal from Toni. They deserved a bit better than that. They ran the risk of a red card all game though. The bookings were really stacking up against them. Well done to Bayern, almost certain to do the domestic double now.

Congrats, Effe! As I said to the Bayern fans in the pub last night: At least you lot had to work for it. Wink It was also quite funny because one of the guys at the next table had just finished saying: "Well, actually, I wouldn't mind the game to go into extra time..." when Dortmund scored. Laughing Though it was the Leverkusen fan who jinxed Dortmund in extra time: "I have never seen a team [he meant Bayern] play this badly apart from Stuttgart." And then Toni scored. Wink

PS: I won't feel bad about confusing Schweini and Lell from afar anymore--if even die hard Bayern fans can't tell them apart... Wink

The first goal was a typical Toni goal, or 'striker's goal'. The second one was a new manifestation of the famous 'Bayern Dusel', it was very lucky.

Still, it's amazing to see how he always seem to know where the best position is, and his finishing is sublime as well. In this respect, he is the best striker I have seen since Gerd Müller, so the comparisons are valid.

Just watched the hightlights of it, the second goal...I would have given it to Podolski.

Anyway, looked like a decent match, feel sorry for Dortmund though, great club.

Btw..anyone else think Ribery is a nutter...first he runs away with that cup..then with the wasser thing, he looked like a psycho when he did that to Toni.
