Post by goldtoffeefan Tue May 06, 2008 7:36 pm

What do you think about Everton chances for 5th place?
Personally i think we have a great chance unless we screw up agaisnt Newcastle and still Villa have to win agaisnt West Ham (which they most likely will)

    My prediction:

1-1 Neville/hibbert scoring in the last minute.
Que huge parade of people saying they always believed in them...

lol! thanks for the faith in us dude...but we very rarely ever lose a game on the last day of the season. We've had Man Utd on the last day of the season 3 times...and we've won two and drew one. It's something we seem to always do...and I'll be very surprised if we finish off the season losing at Upton Park to Nigel Mediocre and his team.

Due to the fact I think we will beat Aston Villa...I think you'll finish 5th. Maybe you can build on that next season, and beat Spain to 4th place.

I just think that Aston Villa will want it more then you, then again you never know.
Y'know we haven't won on the last day of the season for.. oh i don't know how long! about 6 years. Joe Parkinson scored the goal if i remember correctly.

It's gonna be an amazing atmosphere as always...and we have that drive for finishing above T*ttenham...Harewood will get a great reception, so I hope he features...big fan of Marlon, he done alot for our club, and is one of my favourite West Ham players of all-time.

I think we can get the win. Newcastle at home is a tricky one...I reckon a 1-1.

I don't think we'll win at Ham. I think draw is most likely. We fucked up our chance for 5th vs Wigan.

As long as Brum don't lose to Blackburn (I think they'll win, but still go down) we're okay for 6th and Intertoto, which is fine by me ok

I do like the pixies, "goldtoffeefan". I am also partial to debasing <Ale>

Blackburn get 6th if they win at Brum, and we don't win. So it's quite feasible. But I think Brum are quite strong at home, and will probably get a positive result of some kind (even though it will most likely be futile)

probably pretty similar. they got some bargains (whatever they paid for Cahill, Lescott, Arteta were all great deals) but they also spent £20m on Yak + Johnson up front and pissed away £6m (I think) on Baines.

overall, I'd say their team cost about as much as Villa. bit more than Blackburn, bit less than City.

Ah okay, in my mind their team was cheaper than that of the competition.....but I thought it would be wise to ask Wink

I'm gonna support the team with the cheapest squad : sounds like Blackburn.

actually they can't get 5th anyway, that's between Everton and Villa. but they can leapfrog Villa for the intertoto spot.

I have more sympathy for the numbers 5 till 9 than the top 4 to be honest.

Everton, City, Blackburn & Villa seem more proper clubs than those big businesses at the top....but I'm afraid that's changing fast Sad

Poor Everton never have any money to spend, apart from £12m on Yakubu,... and £8m on Johnson. They aren't as poor as they like to make out, they're hardly Bolton.

£4m rising to £6m for appearances apparently. He's started only 17 games so they won't have paid it all. But f@ck em, our payments for Oba are spread out over 5 years, you don't see my saying we only spent £4m on him. <Ale>

Paying a comparative fortune in wages as well.

Not everyone is enjoying beefy bottom lines. With the highest payroll of its peers, Chelsea continues to lean on Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich to cover its losses. Player salaries as a percent of revenue at the club hit 71% in 2007, down from 86% when Abramovich took over five years ago. New owners at Premiership rivals Everton and West Ham United appear to be taking a similar tack—their ratios are 75% and 77%, respectively, and well above the 54% average for our top 25. Overall, that’s up slightly from 52% last year.

    Forbes Rich List

West Ham, Manchester City, Everton and Aston Villa all had the same revenue in the past year give or take a couple of million. Can't find any data on that site for the rest unfortunately, but by inference it'd be safe to assume that Villa and Manchester City are far closer to the average.

They have no money to take the extra step, but they are more than rich enough to tread water for an awfully long time.
