That is so incredibly obscene if I compare that to Dutch teams
It simply isn't funny any more
It is. But it's just the cost of getting a half-decent premiership team these days.
Reo-Coker is young, English and not too far from the England squad (or at least he wasn't far at one point) and cost
£8m . I daresay, a Dutch club buying a Dutch equivalent would not be paying anywhere near that. It's just an economy unto itself, the Premier league.
Most players of the Dutch team (or near it) are already playing abroad : not even the Dutch topteams can keep 'm.
Ooijer was PSV's captain, yet the money of Blackburn was so good he had to go.
Lee makes so much money at Tottenham that he prefers to sit on their bench instead of playing CL for PSV.
etc. etc.
I read recently that FC Groningen (5th - 9th category Dutch club) spend 13.5 M euro (that's
9 M pounds) in total on players in the past
EIGHT seasons !!!
That's without taking sales into account, so net we're spending even less...
The good thing is that we're fitting in players from our own youth...and they're surprising friend and foe by how well they' re playing.
Worst part is that we now are being robbed of our most important players in the winter, so it's impossible to have a decent season
Nevland our captain wanted to play against relegation at Fulham instead of playing for the title in Holland.
(and even though we didn't have any money to invest we still held the mighty Fiorentina to 1-1 in both legs in the UEFA cup)
