why is nobody talking about the Euros ? Empty why is nobody talking about the Euros ?

    Post by Ä Wed May 07, 2008 11:08 am

    this is getting ridiculous

in about a month we have the most difficult football tournament in the world staged in Austrian and Switzerland

it's FAR more difficult to win the EUros than he World Cup (according to Ballack, Beckenbauer etc)

yet discussion about the event amongst our mostly European posters is virtually at a standstill

what on earth is going on here ?

the Englanders and S./Americans should now adopt a team and cheer it on as their own

ie , hype it out of all proportion

otherwise, it will become too boring on here during the Cup and some of us will just go somewhere more lively

so, NON-Europeans and Englanders, which country will you adopt ?

    I suggest

Puro: Holland (likes the colour orange)
mongrel: Germany (because of his sis)
    barriele: Italy (because of Crespo)
    children: Spain (Costa Blanca)
bernd: Germany (because of the pretty girls)
    parky: Portugal (C.Ronaldo)
    juligen: Germany (German men)
roger : France (he likes Bonne Maman jam)

I agree with Otto, same thing in this country...there isnt anything that would suggest that we are playing at a EC in a month time.

I remember 4 years ago...we started to look forward to play the first match against the Germans in January already.

This could be another sign that international football is dying. And im part of it too, I'm much more interested in Feyenoord this summer then Oranje.

No Orange hamsters, Guinea pigs, dogs, buildings, streets, so far.

Thing is in most countries there is a still CL/Titles to be decided - England, Italy, France; you have the play-offs in Holand and since most of the posters here are from these countries that is the result.

I think once the season is out the way (i.e. after the CL final, 2 weeks today) the hype will start proper. Euros don't feel that close yet, even though it is coming very soon...

possibly because the Bundesliga and CL and UEFA Cup are still on

    still

we have to increase the temperature pronto

there is a lot to talk about

Englander really HAVE to take one country and support it with the same passion and delusion as ENgland

Otto, give me some credit--Hinkel himself has said that he's not even thinking about being called up and Volz has hardly featured for Fulham this season. But if Odonkor gets included, particularly after his recent comments ("wenn ich Löw wäre würde ich den Odonkor sofort nominieren")... Grr

personally, I would nominate Odonkor as well

I don't care whether other teams now know about his speed

they cannot handle it and will be scared shitless

Odo's crossing may not be brilliant, but he will get truckloads of corners from which Klose and Gomez will score

he HAS to be in the team

I just don't see how he'd merit a place, after being out for 3/4 of the season while others (e.g. Hilbert--go on, accuse me of club bias) played.

Re:Corners: Sure, if someone teaches whoever is the designated corner taker now how to produce ones that actually reach Merte/Kefffin/whoever else... The last ones, if I remember correctly, came in either knee high or landed in no man's land.

Can't believe nobody is talking about it.

I'm still gutted Scotland never made it but I can't wait for the tournament to kick off.

No Ian Wright talking Cr@p, those who love football getting to watch the games without a half time report from England's training camp for a game that is 5 days away. Just hope the coverage doesn't act as an advertisement for the Premiership or good players getting instantly linked to Premiership teams.

Please BBC and ITV just let us enjoy watching countries that we often don't get the chance to watch.

Interesting points there Otto (did you ghost-write Magath's answers?), but the victory in 1996 and the 2nd place in 2002 (against the run of play as it were – just look at 2000 and 2004) can't disguise the "missing generation" resulting from the failure to establish a sufficiently advanced system of youth development at technical level in the 1990s (just compare Clairefontaine). Even at the last World Cup there was a gap between the Lahm-Schweini-Poldi-Merte age group and the Ballack-Frings kind of age, when you want your 25- to 27-year-olds to be at their peak. You can't just stick your head in the sand and say that this "Nachholbedarf" doesn't exist, and that's without even starting to talk about the coaching situation.

(or you could just be as succinct as Häschen and ask "where does he talk sense? scratch" Wink )

As regards the "star of the tournament", the selection's Cr@p to be fair and 22% said "someone else", as I would have.

I enjoyed this comment from the "form barometer" article in the Kicker: "Lukas Podolski bekleckerte sich in Wolfsburg lediglich mit Weißbier und nicht mit sportlichem Ruhm." Laughing
